Are Mercedes really worth the money??

I'm going to recommend to my mom the E320. I've heard great things about this car, and the latest Raod&Track has a sedan supertest where the benz places second only to the Cadillac CTS.

I wish they sold the 320CDI in California 🙁

mercedes cater to a totally different demographic than BMW or audi..

people that buy MB are usually older and well of people

this is america. people here want V8s and RWD despite no need for it. any flagship car that doesnt have both will not succeed.

V8 yes, RWD no! AWD is better for safety reasons.

and how bout FWD?

the 500/600 line of mercedes are... 😱 in terms of price. i never really cared for the interior (germans think weirdly when it comes to some ergonomics), but i've never driven the $130k line so i don't know if they're worth it. 0-60 in 4.6 though, i believe...

FWD is pretty popular on most models such as toyota, honda, some volkswagens, MBs, mazdas, and so on. I personally prefer AWD since it is safer in the snowy winters.

FWD is the worst setup for a car that's supposed to be sporty and fun to drive. RWD or AWD would be the best. I'd actually prefer RWD although I haven't driven any fast AWD cars so I can't say for sure on those. I have a 2003 Maxima and the torque steer on that thing is crazy. Better have both hands on the wheel when you punch it because it wants to go any direction but the direction you want it to go.

Edit-BTW Mercedes reliablity is much worse than Lexus. BMW and Mercedes have slipped quite a bit in the quality department in the past few years. I don't think Audi is stellar in this department either. I'd take a Lexus over any of them unless prestige was my only motivation to buy the car.

You might not want to do that.

My ex boss has an E430 and it is always in the shop. He absolutely hates that car. Every week something goes wrong with it. He is totally anti MB now. He owns an SL500 also but never drives it (less than 5K miles for a 3 YO car) but has such a bad taste in his mouth from the E that he tells everyone never to get MB.

Thats weird. As far as I know most models come with FWD nowadays. I dont think there are many RWDs out there. Yes, Lexus is a pretty good luxury car, but what about the new Volkswagen Pytheon?

ever since mercedes moved their production line to the United States, we've seen a gradual decline in quality. The car that I drive now is an old '94 Mercedes 300E... going strong all the time, and in better comdition than most post-1998 Mercedes out there.

However, those SLK AMG's do look sweet 🙂

My friend's family has two Mercedes. So far, the rear speakers and rear cabin lights have gone out on the 500. As for my friend's c240 (0r whatever it's called), its adjustable front seats have had to be repaired twice.

Small little things, except for the seat, but i thought i'd expect fewer problems, especially in the case of one family!

IMO i think its a thing with european cars...always those little things to fix like lights blown out etc...My BMW has gone in soooo many times its rediculous. Much rather drive a jap car; 500k gogo.~

Ford F-350 Diesel 4 x 4. Seven thousand pounds of go anywhere at anytime, haul anything including your Mercedes, one thousand cubic feet of interior space, built in America, kick your ass engineering.

Oh, and it's REALLY safe if you get into an accident. Especially with a small, foreign car. 😛

No, will never buy an MB. Would rather have the acura TL, infiniti G35, nissan 350Z, RX8. Any of those. If I were to spend an exhorbant amount of money I would goto jaguar xjr, or the M5. MB would never even be considered.

AMG models, maybe. Otherwise, no.

As beautiful as the SL is, its interior is everely lacking in quality. Mercedes steering is also too soft for my liking.

only if there is a HD going on at the mercedez dealership...say something like a couple thousand $$$ in MIR, and a few thousand $$ in IR's...then they are...😉

but seriously, ya...they're nice cars, just like i'd like to have a BMW, a Lexus, and more importantly a hummer
