FWD is the worst setup for a car that's supposed to be sporty and fun to drive. RWD or AWD would be the best. I'd actually prefer RWD although I haven't driven any fast AWD cars so I can't say for sure on those. I have a 2003 Maxima and the torque steer on that thing is crazy. Better have both hands on the wheel when you punch it because it wants to go any direction but the direction you want it to go.
Edit-BTW Mercedes reliablity is much worse than Lexus. BMW and Mercedes have slipped quite a bit in the quality department in the past few years. I don't think Audi is stellar in this department either. I'd take a Lexus over any of them unless prestige was my only motivation to buy the car.

My ex boss has an E430 and it is always in the shop. He absolutely hates that car. Every week something goes wrong with it. He is totally anti MB now. He owns an SL500 also but never drives it (less than 5K miles for a 3 YO car) but has such a bad taste in his mouth from the E that he tells everyone never to get MB.

ever since mercedes moved their production line to the United States, we've seen a gradual decline in quality. The car that I drive now is an old '94 Mercedes 300E... going strong all the time, and in better comdition than most post-1998 Mercedes out there.

My friend's family has two Mercedes. So far, the rear speakers and rear cabin lights have gone out on the 500. As for my friend's c240 (0r whatever it's called), its adjustable front seats have had to be repaired twice.
Small little things, except for the seat, but i thought i'd expect fewer problems, especially in the case of one family!

Ford F-350 Diesel 4 x 4. Seven thousand pounds of go anywhere at anytime, haul anything including your Mercedes, one thousand cubic feet of interior space, built in America, kick your ass engineering.
Oh, and it's REALLY safe if you get into an accident. Especially with a small, foreign car. 😛

AMG models, maybe. Otherwise, no.
As beautiful as the SL is, its interior is everely lacking in quality. Mercedes steering is also too soft for my liking.
