There was a special on the news a couple mornings ago where a guy from London said they pay the equivalent of $10 a gallon, and have for years.
People in the UK are not paying $10 a gallon.

I think it's closer to ~$6 right now. Maybe even $7 in Amsterdam.

Then drive less. I think that it's sad that it takes high prices to force you to be a responsible consumer.

Inflation will go through the roof. Nothing ever goes down in price..... except drugs.
This is completely incorrect. Everything technological always goes down in price.

Gas prices are not going to ever go down again, the process is to get the consumer used to excessive prices, then only marginally decrease it so as to ratchet up the baseline prices.
Supply and demand , my butt. More like only six suppliers nationwide and collusion regarding pricing.
Hums "Twilight Zone" theme song to the clueless conspiracy theorist. The fact of the matter is that -- adjusted for inflation -- gas prices had been declining to stable from 1985 to 2004.

Good... because that is what it will take before gas prices ever go down again.

A lot of people want their low gas prices but also don't want to curtail their driving habits in any way, shape, or form-- very irrational behavior, IMHO.

What of alot of the people that are there? The poor, the not well off that dont get to go anywhere because they are already on a tight budget and have no access to public trasportation. What do you say to the millions that are in that situation?
I am one of thoes where we dont take trips, drive needlesly, and yet if it keeps going up will have to take from my food budget for my family to make due. Its at a point now where we are stuck at home. no going to the movies, no going out to eat, no going on educational trips for the kids. Where at what the government and well off people want and thats for the poor to stay home and not get in the way of thier lifestyle. What a way to make sure that happends. Make the price go up so much you cant go anywhere. Its going to hurt not only us but people who depend on the masses that would take a trip and bring money into the communities by shoping at thier stores, see the attractions, and so on. Its going to hurt the food industry because the prices of food will have to go up more to take the hit of fuel costs to get it to the store.

Not everyone is in a position to where they can say YEAH let it go up I can afford it and fvck all who cant.

Gas will not go significantly above $3/gal. or oil above $75/bbl.

The driving force behind the rise in oil and gas prices is market speculators (and not actual market forces or even the oil corporations). The speculators, most of whom are large investment groups and hedge funds, are well aware that rising prices above those magic barriers will bring in government involvement and oversight which could lead to a price crash.
