If you can't afford gas at $5 a gallon, don't buy it. I know I can afford it.

We're pretty much already at those prices in Canada. I paid $1.22 per litre for 91 octane here right now.
Sucks.

Good... because that is what it will take before gas prices ever go down again.

A lot of people want their low gas prices but also don't want to curtail their driving habits in any way, shape, or form-- very irrational behavior, IMHO.

Gas prices are not going to ever go down again, the process is to get the consumer used to excessive prices, then only marginally decrease it so as to ratchet up the baseline prices.
Supply and demand , my butt. More like only six suppliers nationwide and collusion regarding pricing.

I am hoping that the price goes up to $10/gallon so I don't have to worry about traffic jams anymore

Proof or shuddup.

OPEC itself has a hard enough time setting its own price.

We have been pretty much stagnant in our supply, yet demand in the last ten years has nearly doubled-- with much of the new demand coming from quickly industrializing foreign nations like China.

When you have more people trying to buy from the same pool, prices have nowhere to go but up.

The only real long-term solution is to reduce our dependence on oil... but that would actually take some sacrifice. Instead of using mass transportion, limiting unnecessary trips, carpooling, or buying more fuel-efficient vehicles, we'd rather piss and moan about how the evil gas companies are screwing us over.

Cheap gas is not a right-- and those that think so fit in quite well with the new entitlement mentality in this nation.

We have it easy right now, when automobiles were invented, Standard Oil had monopoly of oil supply.

As a rich person, I laugh when people say things like this. It isn't always that easy to get a great job. But even rich people need poorer people to round out the botton of the economy. If they stop buying fast food and Xboxes, life will be worse for all of us -- even us rich people.

Unless you are rich stockholders of oil companies and will be getting a nice dividend.
