Are Core 2 DUO's still good for light gaming ?

I recently upgraded from a Core2 Duo E6750 @ 3.2ghz to my 3770k that I had been running since 2007, and although the 3770k was a huge upgrade, I was never unable to run any game on the Core 2. In fact, I felt like it was more of a vanity thing than anything.

WoW ran a lot faster on the 3770k though, that's for sure.

For combined CPU/GPU power, Deus Ex 3 was the *only* game than ran faster and more smoothly on my laptop than it did the Core 2 @ 3.2ghz.

Hmmm, I have a Window$ XP machine with a E8400@ 3.6GHz, and 2x GTX 460's. I can easily run a modded Crysis with most all eye-candies turned up.

oh but won't be able to test the cpu in games as i having problems with the board. it won't post . Don't know if its the board or cpu but i suspect it to be the board causing problems

may be a long shot, but maybe your board manufacturer has bios update to make the newer processor work

can't update if i can't get any CPUs to work in it

Yep tried a celeron D, pentium D, and Core 2 Duo and nothing. Just a black screen with the fans running at max RPM

Those came on old HP's I think. You might try to get a speaker on the motherboard to see what error codes it's throwing up.

i took the one of my board and put it on it but i didn't get any error codes unless no cpu was in it or if i put a bad stick in it

Have you reset the BIOS?

yep and cleared CMOS more than once. It could need a BIOs update but have no way of testing that without a supported CPU

I am late to the party, but wasn't it working fine until you tried to put the updated chip in there?

Is the 4-pin (or does that board have an 8-pin) power connector plugged in?

nope this is a different board not the same one from when the thread was first started. Yes the 4 pin and 24 pin connectors are connected properly i made sure when putting it on a test bench. The first board i had only supported up to the Pentium D 960 and not any C2D's so i had to get a new board.

i don't know because i have no low end chip that it supports to test it. When i looked at the CPU support list today doesn't list the Pentium D or Celeron D so i can't test to fully determine if its dead

Gotcha, it could be a memory compatibility issue, but that would be somewhat rare. Sounds like the board could be dead.

not RAM at i have tried over 5 Different sticks Samsung, Crucial, G.Skill - 533. 667, & 800

Maybe a pin on the socket got bent. That is fairly common with used mobos. I was going to offer up an E1400 to help you see if it is a CPU issue but I don't think it would help. Good news is there are a lot of 775 mobos out there for cheap, just try again.

I have a pc with e7300 and a 6870 and it plays games really smoothly. Games played are WoW, SWTOR, diablo 3 mostly.
