right, and where are most of the black people in this country? most of the latinos are down south too. get outside of nyc and it is lily white. yes, there is a huge population of asian immigrants in CA, but notice i said in comaparison. that means there is room for some multiethinic blue states and some lily white red states.

and i would hardly call the midwest red states. they are most decidedly purple.

of course, if all the democrats worry about is demographics, saying that 'latinos must vote democrat and it is only an anomaly if they don't,' then democrats are going to lose a lot of elections.

If it weren't for Republican Everett Dirksen the 1965 Act would have never passed.

Which was my point from earlier. Historically voting patterns have been more evenly distributed across racial lines. We're to the point now where whites disporportionately vote Republican, and non-whites disporpotionately vote Democratic. I think those sharp divides will decrease over time - more whites will vote (D), and vice versa for minorities. Whether that's going to change the battle lines or plans for the parties is another question entirely. My only premise is that the minority vote for Democratic candidates is far from a given, and neither party seems to have an extraordinary message for minority voters right now. I'd say the current default cannot last as is, and which side minority support comes down on is very much up in the air at this point.

This is a huge distortion. The vote was split along regional lines, not party lines. The Dixiecrat Democrats of the South were the only democrats who voted against the bill.

* Southern Democrats: 1-21
* Southern Republicans: 0-1

* Northern Democrats: 46-1
* Northern Republicans: 27-5

Following the passage of the 1964 civil rights act, the dixiecrat democrats (think Strom Thurmond) defected to the Republican party, the democrats lost their huge presence in the South as the Republicans swept in. The Anti-civil rights platforms (Goldwater, Reagan, father Bush) following 1964 won the South for the Republican party, and it has remained that way till today. The Dixiecrat democrats are by today's standards and through their defections, Republican.

You forgot to mention that compared to Wisconsin, NJ is way behind in living standard, education and poverty. Also being close to New York City helps since a lot of business comes from there. I've been to New Jersey, I've seen the streets, I've smelled the air, and it wasn't pleasant. Thank you for the offer, but I'd rather stay in my beautiful state (I don't live in Wisconsin or anywhere close to it).

Actually, I want the democrats to win and the balance of power to be restored, but to think that the upcoming wave after wave of immigrants will automatically vote democratic is poltical suicide.

What religion are the hispanics? Oh, thats right, Christian - the religion you seem to associate with white America. Well guess what? Hundreds of millions of Christians live in Africa, South America, Central America and Asia. I'm sure they are white as well.

Many experts believe that hispanics will start voting Republican increasingly due to the immigration policies of Republicans AND that hispanics are very conservative in social values, so they will identify with Republicans. Now that the Republicans are reaching out to the hispanic communities, they will bring a significant portion of the vote to the Republican party. And it was the Cuban vote that elected Bush to the office (although Gore got more votes overall). To say that democrats will automatically seize the minority vote is not only wrong, but also extremely inappropriate since you're saying the minorities can't actually think for themselves and make a choice.
