Are comic books no longer popular?

Haven't bought many comics for 20 years, but once I received my Chase Sapphire card, I immediately spent some $7000 on comic books in the first month so I can book travel with the bonus.

I found that I could buy large sequential runs of popular titles like Batman, X-Men, Punisher, etc. I'm talking 200-300 consecutive issues or complete runs of series. And I was buying them for well under cover price; often 50% off. It must suck for some guy to faithfully buy a title for over a decade, and then sell all those comics for a giant loss.

I know that Marvel now offers all their comics online for a monthly fee. Have people stopped reading printed comics?

used to buy comics since late 60s till mid 90s. A lot of them given away to nephews. Now most of my collection is the downloadable type (cbr/cbx file) stored in HDD. Some of them copied to my tablet to read when I'm traveling/not at home. I still have boxes of comics in storage. DC and Marvel.

We have movies now and YouTube.

Comics had their golden age when color print was cheap and movies still had to be seen in theaters and no one had tvs.

Have you seen some of the contemporary comics now? There s a really bad one called tank girl where a female is in a grim war zone and it is supposed to be edgy and progressive but is just junk.

Man, you're fucking stupid. Tank Girl started in the 80s.
Go read some Ennis or Millar.

$7000 on comic books? Tank Girl is contemporary? Not sure if serious in about half of the posts in this thread.

And if you could get ALL old Marvel comics for a monthly fee, I'd still subscribe, but they left a bunch of the good ones out of the monthly last time I checked.

Everything Elfquest printed up to 2014 is free at elfquest.com. Way better than the vast majority of Marvel or DC.

Comics aren't as popular as they have been in the past. The genre is growing, but that's mostly movies/shows/video games. As everything, I'm sure it'll pick back up. Not sure if it'll hit the speculator period of the 90s, but it'll get better... and that's not just my wishful 13K comics I want to sell of thinking..

I know I'm serious, although I was wrong about the amount. I saw a balance of $7000 on my new Chase card so I assumed that was for all the comics I bought, but apparently $450 of that was for the annual fee, which does not count towards the bonus points.

I still don't understand why I won't be getting the full 100,000 points on my next statement though.

Yes. pcslookout would know how to. ;)

Some of my comics collection from the '90s IIRC. Probably 20 more boxes, used to spend a lot during that time. Can't recall if I've even read half of them.

Webcomics are more popular for a handful of reasons, the main one being that it's just a better format, but every one I can think of off the top of my head also releases chapters in hard copy. The old paperbacks aren't dying out any time soon.

you could have just spent that 7$k on booking travel

then spent the bonus on MORE travel

but then, no comic books i guess

I do wish they'd give you a digital copy when you buy a paper copy, I do like paper comics, but they're not nearly as convenient.

Marvel tried that for a while.. it didn't translate into more sales so it was dropped.

Tank Girl (1995)

Yeah, I wouldn't know about newer ones, I haven't bought a comic since the 70's.

I've always considered the movie as being one of those "so bad it is fun to watch" ones.

Lori Petty was fun, brunette Naomi Watts was hot, and Malcolm McDowell chewed on the scenery. I've always considered Tank Girl to be a fun B movie period.

I don't think I've read any comics this century, but I forget when it was that I read Miller's Dark Knight and Year One.

I don't read much Marvel, unfortunately for them. Last one was probably Marvel 1602 (because Neil Gaiman).

I was in high school when the movie came out, so I was able to enjoy it at face value :D
I don't think I've watched it post-Y2K, I only own it on VHS.
