Are Combo CDRW-DVD Players reliable?

I would say yes they are pretty good.

Only thing is, it will wear out quicker if your using it as a DVD player, CD Drive and Writer at same time.

Ive had my 8x writer for a few years now, my mate had his combo drive for 18 months before it finished itself.

I have seperate drives for everything.

Yea, make sure you know which Samsung you buy. It may just have a 2MB or 8MB Cache 🙁 The drive it self is amazing, it is extremely quiet and fast. However, their is no Mt. Rainer (sp?) support. Samsung said they would release a firmware update but I havent heard of it. I am waiting for them to release another version with Mt.Rainer and faster DVD. 😀

The 52X cd-rw with 16x dvd Samsung Version has Mt. Rainer support. At least from their website

Retail = 8mb
OEM/Bulk = 2mb

I should have a Retail Samsung 48x/16X this week 😀

Another victim to dirty heads perhaps?

Every time someone gives me a bad CDRW that still spun up, I've been able to clean the heads and get it running. A good ole can of air and a dry type of cd-cleaning disk seems to work every time.
