Are AT forums on the decline?

It seems to be less busy on here. It isn't like the old days where you'd post something and it'd be off the front page in 5 minutes. Of course I am talking about peak hours, not 1:44AM like now.

The all-so-accurate Alexa seems to reflect this:

I know it's not accurate at all, but it seems things are slowing down. What do you think?

I seem to remember we hit 100k users a *LONG* time ago, but it's still only at 175k now.

It's not just me. Check out how fast the replies came at 1 freaking AM in the wayback machine picture:

And peak time:

Well and truly in decline, in my not so humble opinion 😉

Although some of it is explained by the new forums no doubt, most of them are agonisingly slow too...

Complains the user averaging 3 posts per day...

Truth... I supported them when they came out, but I think it may have been a bad decision.

The alexa trend actually shows anandtech to be remarkably stable in long term trends

I've thought they were a bad idea since day 1. 🙁

ATOT is getting a little slower. Now you've got me thinking maybe I should subscribe to another forum. Any suggestions?

I kinda like the sub categories, but they might be bad overall. What ticks me most about AT these days is the broken Search feature that seems to be completely ignored. Makes me wonder if the Haydays of AT have passed and whether the Site is becoming less Financially Viable as the shine of the Internet loses its' newness. Perhaps it's just me, but even the wonders of Forums have waned over the years as it has become apparent that "Discussion" rarely takes place and things like Trolling/Flaming gets the most interest. So much Promise, such an increasingly disappointing Result.[/feeble rant]

Or, maybe I just need some Sleep? 😛😀

it's hard to argue with that steep sloping curve at the
very right hand side of Alexa.

But - it is a percentage of web traffic, isn't it ?

i don't think AT has gone downhill. compared to
some other websites, AT has relatively few ads.

Tom's Hardware shows the same very recent fall-off.
schools that are on the semester system started this
week, or next week. e.g. Santa Clara U. starts the
Tuesday after MLK Monday, next week.

i think it's a seasonal thing.

It's because they split one category off into 40 kajillion categories. Off topic used to be a one-stop shop for all things that weren't computer related. Now you need to browse like 9 categories for the same stuff.

TFNN is making a huge dent in the AT numbers.

i thought mostly banned members went there? I guess its good for people who want anarchy, but its not so great for people who browse from work.

why do do we need 2 threads on this subject anyway?

I liked the old one, but after P&N was created because it rid us of many trolls. It was almost a game to see if you could keep up at certain hours. Indeed, I remember great forum games, trying to keep threads in a certain order by posting and bumping them to the top. We did it once...then I along with several others were given vacations. Ahh, the good old days.

I lurk and sometimes post over there and I'm not banned. I do wish I could go to TFNN from work though but can't risk it since I never know what might pop up in any given thread.

That's part of the fun....TFNN - It's like Russian Roulette for your browser.
