I bought some Brooks Brother Golden Fleece polos ($25 after Xmas sale) after researching the fashion forums. The general consensus was that they were the best in terms of quality.

I can confirm they hold their color really well and don't really shrink. They are sturdy as shit and the collar doesn't curl. The fit is large though. I'm an L and bought M--unprecedented for me. The cut is slim and flatters your body really well--especially in the back.

With that said, I prefer the currently hip Original Penguin polos. They fade more but the cut is the best I've found. It tapers as it goes down and gives you a nice V shape. The collar is also the sexiest and is the polo I get most complimented by women. The BB polo is more yuppie looking in comparison.

The RL polos are sturdy but fade WAY TOO FAST. Plus, the tail is toooo damn long--which is the ding most fashionistas give it. It looks stupid hanging out in the back. IMO, both BB and Penguins polos kill RL in most ways that matter to me.

I also really like the Eddie Bauer Pima polos. Well made and cut in a flattering way.

In reality news: if your body looks like shit, clothes aren't actually going to help, despite what delusions one may actually have.

Tried plenty of polos.

I am now committed to buying only J Crew polos. Best fit and durability for the $

Does ANYONE know why all shirts are soooo wide at the mid section? Some are extremely tight around the shoulder and chest, but the waist never fits.

I only buy Ralph Lauren and Daniel Cremieux. Looks good, and continues to look good after many washes.

I have whole bunch of RL, Nautica, Gap, and some other less known brands.
Nautica line with pima cotton is most comfortable, and it does last forever. RL lasts forever as well, but cotton gets rougher over time.
Less known ones lose form and colors fairly quickly. You could get lucky with them.

cheap Polos are made crappy as hell. They fade quicker, and the collar gets all ratty looking after not many washes. I get Ecko polos, they don't cost as much as R.L. ones and hold up very nicely. I pay 50'ish for them normally. They're definitely worth the price premium, I got about 20 and some are from 2 years ago but still look good. Cheap ones will look like shit after 10 washes. A persons appearance is important why the hell would anyone skimp when it comes to their clothes? this one is hellova clean looking

I buy Tommy Hilfiger polos mostly from Dillards. I bought one for $40 once and I will not do that again. I buy them when they go on sale for 50% off, so I pay about $20 each for them. The other polos I like are Nautica and Cremieux, which are sold at Dillards for a good price also.

Ive had GAP polos that have fallen apart rather quickly. Usually I buy Nautica polos from the outlet and they hold up well. I have some AE ones that have held up well also.

The pure cotton (I guess that's the fabric used in most) polo shirts tend to fade and get really beat up after many wash cycles. That is another advantage of getting the polo shirts made from the moisture-wicking stuff -- you can wash them dozens of times and they look as good as when you bought them.

Here are the ones I'm talking about:

You can get them in plain colors too without the stripes.

Another vote for the Grand Slam polos at Kohls. Good variety on colors as well.

The main difference is fit. The difference between a M and L can be huge depending on which brand you're looking at.

I used to get Old Navy and Gap polos, but after a few washes they would look terrible. Now I buy most of my polos at the Tommy outlet store when they go on sale for $15. I've had some for a few years and they look almost new. No fading at all.

I currently have a lot of and like, the polos from Land's End. You can get them for around $20 each and they go on sale every so often. Roomy and they seem to last a good while. (you can also find Land's End at most Sear's stores)

I don't wear polo shirts, but I do buy the higher priced Ralph Lauren undershirts from Macy's because they are the softest and also fit the best out of the three or four brands I've tried.

Thanks for all the opinions thus far everyone.

I live 2 minutes away from a big outlet mall which has stores from RL, Lacoste, Nautica, Banana, J Crew all at really good prices so i'll take these under consideration when i go and check a few more out.

I seem to fit perfect in a Lacoste size 6, while the one L Tommy polo I have right now fits fine but feels a bit long. The banana's I have shrunk a decent amount and seem to be much stiffer than when I bought em.

Spending $30-80 on a single garment of clothing is mega stupid, regardless of brand. Why?

Because you can love the same brand and shop smart at outlets/sales for $15-25.

Outlet stores are the rejects. Nowhere near the same quality.

this, it's not always the case but my recent encounters with Marshalls & Burlington Coat Factor were this.

2 pairs of pants, totally different brands where the zipper won't stay up for more than 10 minutes when I'm walking around. These were $65 a pair normally I got for $20'ish. A polo shirt that should have cost about $60 for $15 where the buttons won't stay buttoned. I'd had some awesome luck with clothes from these places in the past. But lately it seems everything I get has issues.
