I have had my Intellimouse Optical for over a year, and I have had no problems. I play alot of games and it gets used and abused. I would buy one again.

Got in on a Staples deal for a free MS Wheel Mouse Optical 2.0 and love it. I'm only 2 months into use so I guess I can't talk reliability yet, but it's looking good.

<< Whatever you do, get a RatPad to go along with your rodent >>

I've tried one out and found the length a little short for my liking. The sUrface 1030 seems to have gotten pretty amazing reviews, for a mousepad. I'm still waiting for Firingsquad to deliver me the one I won. 😎

The only problem i ran into with the Intellimouse Optical was that the wiring was a bit weak. I just wound up ripping it open and soldering the necessary leads, seems to work fine now...

Well, i ordered a logitech Cordless Desktop Optical about 6 weeks ago, finally got it a couple days ago....thing is shweet. The main aspect of it i like is the keyboard, god its purday, hehe. Anyway, not two weeks ago, i got a ratpad in anticipation of my new mouse (which i was never too bothered about, wanted an IE3, and had previously ordered it, but the ordered got fudged up, hehe)....only for Kyle ( of {H}ard|OCP ) to post that the Cordless MouseMan Optical doesnt really like it...sure enough, first thing i checked on getting it out the box was how it faired on the Rapad, and the thing tacks very badly. If you stop it, then it doesnt track at all in the slightest unless you lift it. Moral Of The Story Is....***dont get a current Ratpad for a Cordless MouseMan Optical***

My solution ? I did what i had done in the first place - placed an order fora Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, it arrives Monday.....hehe😀

So now ill have both the mice, gets me the best of both worlds, and i can once again employ my shiny new Ratpad, if only for one of them. Meanwhile, the Logitech mouse is pretty happy on the table itself, and i get to piss off my friend for having both the Mouseman and the IE3, and the cordless keyboard, hee hee 😉 😎

EDIT: damn [ ] H logo 🙂

MS just sent me a free Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 for free because my 1.0 was faulty. I also have the 2.0. The 3.0 beyond it's greater accuracy has a much more "solid" feel in it's buttons .. I recommend it! 🙂

I absolutely need 4 buttons which is why I don't have a Logitech huh?

My logitech has four buttons. I've also had it for a year and it looks and behaves like I got it yesturday. I think that MS mice suck, get a mouseman. Those logitech cordless mice are pieces of crap too.

I think the IE's button setup is better in that it has 5 buttons...if i want a fast Back button, i sure as hell want a Forward option to go with it, lol. I think the logitechs single side button is better placed though, in that you just roll your thumb to the side to use it as apposed to moving it at all like the IE. Last button related thing - Logitechs Mouseware is a pain in the arse, mouse wheel etc jiggery pokery in games and stuff...why they dont do a application-specific-mapping thing like M$ is beyond me.

Depends which one your talking about, hehe, theyve released several. Im actually liking this Cordless Mouseman Optical more as i use it, but its still getting put to 'away from desk' usage when the IE3 arrives, hehe. The Wireless Intelimouse Explorer on the other hand, now THATS a piece of sh$t 🙂

I've had a logitech optical for over a year, maybe close to two now. Its been dropped too many times, and it still works perfect, great feel and its cheaper than MS mice, last I checked. I used them in all the systems I build, everyone loves them.

Slight update...they sent it by Royal Mail so ive got the IE3 today instead of the Monday delivery i was expecting...how nice 🙂

MWink:

<< I believe Logitech mice are significantly more durable than Microsoft's but I really love the Intelli-Mouse Optical. So until something better comes out, I'm sticking with that. >>

Gotta agree with that. I already knew this since two of my friends have one of the mice (HA, i got both, nah na nah na 😉), the Cordless Mouseman Optical and the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, so ive compared them side by side before...and the Mouseman jsut has a more robust feel to it. But then again, its also got to be inherantly heavier, and isnt bound by its cord, so it needs to be more solild IMHO. Either way, im not saying the M$ mosue isbad in any respcect, its just not a match for the Mouseman.

At the same speed setting for the mouse, the new Mouseman is a lot faster, so that was looking like being a pain, but now i have them ehre, its worked out great. The IE for desktop, and the faster mouseman for using on my armwrest, on my knee, that sorta thing, its sweet 😛

Overall, i gotta say how nice all this new kit is, hehe. Got my cordless keyboard on one hand, and the IE 3+Ratpad on other, and then theres the Mouseman for going walkies with, hehehe, i like it 😀 😛 🙂 😉

Mice I´v had.. not counting no name crap I had first

1. Logitech Mouseman+, a ball mouse with the mouseman look, LOVED it, worked for 2-3 years untill the left button started to .. not work all the time.
2. Tried a Microsoft Optical Explorer for a week, did not like it, it felt cheap and the thumb button was useless in games because it only worked when you released it and not when you clicked it.
3. Bought a Logitech Mouseman Optical where I worked, blue and sleek 🙂 wonderful mouse
4. Bought the same Logitech mouse to replace my old Logitech and thats the Mouse I use at home.
5. I had a Microsoft Optical Explorer at other place I worked at, it went crazy, was usb connected and kept loosing connection to the computer, changed to a ps2 adapter but still same problem, lost connection once a minute or so.

So I´v had one Logitech Mouse fail on me but that was after extensive use. I´v had one Microsoft mouse fail on me and that had nothing to do with useage, its just a crappy mouse.

Anyone know of anyone who has actually used both of these mices and prefered the Microsoft one over the Logitech one?

Well, i wouldnt have both if i didnt like it...the fact it works on my *new* Ratpad was also in its favour (had the ratpad been old, id have probably not been too bothred, but id had it for only about a week beforehand and discovered days before that it wasnt gonna work with the Cordless Mouseman optical i had incming as part of the C.D.O kit), as was the extra button 🙂

Now,even though you said Optical *Explorer* you werent specific, are you talking about the old Intellimouse with intellieye, or the newer Intellimouse Optical, or one of the 3 actual Intellimouse Explorer models ? I hated the first 2 Explorers, but the 3.0 is far more to my liking (again, why ive waited until now to get it, and have ended up with 2 new mice, hehe 😛) due to its modifed shape, size, and button positioning. The first 2 were known for developing problems, but with Microsofts no-quibble and dont-bother-sending-us-the-'broken'-mouse RMA poilcy, most people didnt seem to be too bothered for some reason😉

What is the advantage of a ratpad with an optical mouse?

what does it do differently?

If you bought retail, they will replace it no questions asked by overnighting you a brand new one.

I'm still using the same optical mouse I've had for about 2 years 🙂

No problems whatsoever!

You must have ran into some bad luck!
