I am thinking about purchasing this cooler. I have heard many great things about this cooler. Especially how it cools so well for the amount of money it costs. I was wanting to see what all you here at AT thought about it.

I know that it's no Tuniq Tower 120, but it is cheap, doesn't take as long to install and provides great cooling. Also, I hear that it comes with some of the best thermal paste pre-applied - is this true? Anyways, I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Jup it's good, yes it comes with very good thermal paste pre applied, yes it installs quite easy, and it cools pretty darn good, and it's pretty darn quiet, but not at full rev.

Thanks for responding MarcVenice!

Good deal. I'm glad I heard the right rumors! :p I have my E6850 running at 3.4GHz on the stock cooler and I idle at 38-40C. I haven't found out how high it gets on full load but I wouldn't imagine it would get very high - I'm guessing somewhere around 55-60C maybe? However, I am using AC5 other than the stock thermal pad. I very thoroughly cleaned the base of the heatsink with 91% rubbing alcohol before I applied the AC5. I tinted the heatsink as well.

One thing I'm going to try sometime soon is that DIY Diamond paste that someone posted up here awhile back. Not sure how soon it will be though.

I'm using it on my 6750 at 3.2 stock volt, I idle at about 29C, its a great cooler for the price.

Mine idles @ 35C at 3.870GHz with a Zalman 9700, and peaks @ 70C when running Orthos blend. This is at a Vcore of 1.4925. I started this build with an AC Freezer Pro, and it gave about the same temps as the Zalman.

I have a lapped Thermalright 120 Extreme and a tube of IC Diamond paste just sitting here begging to be installed.
Maybe tomorrow...........if I don't drink too much beer!

The whole point is, the Zalman and the AC Freezer seem to perform about the same, but the AC unit is much cheaper and qualifies as a definate bargain.

Good Luck!

I'd like to see your new temps once you get it done
Me too!
If you can come over tomorrow and drink all the beer before I get to it, we'll both know by noon!

Nice!

I'm hoping to try some Diamond thermal paste. Whether I order a tubr of IC or make my own. It should be fun. :p Very nice temps!

Hmm, not to rain on the AF7 parade but I am just RMA'ing one now. Mine must have been a one off because it is that bad. When I first installed it I thought I was messing something up but repeated trial and all error prove that the AF7 was way the hell warped. It was only touching 30 percent of the CPU.

I figured I had nothing to lose and lapped the CPU in case it was that. After it actually only touched roughly 20 percent, sad I know.

But now the stock intel HSF works really really great. Idle 200mhz more its about 2-3 degrees but when its loaded with Orthos its profound. Before using AS5 ata ll times though not completely broken in I got up to 55-60. After lapping with Intel stock I get 45-50 rarely 52 using orthos and I mean rarely.

I'm gonna RMA it but Ill likely not use it for a bit.

Anyone have an idea on how to lap an AF7 pro? I mean the clips are really in the way with 775 solutions can they be removed?
Id like to lap my Intel Stock while I wait for another AF7 pro but it also seems difficult.

I don't think I have anything flat thats that small that I can trust...

So I pulled the trigger and purchased the F7P. I have my E6850 oc'd to 3.4GHz and it idles @ 30C. How good is that?

I have seen it get up to only 47C tops. That's even running Cinebench 10.

whats the speed of the cpu? and what thermal compound did you seat it with? did you lap the sink, and did you have to remove your motherboard?

I'll try Intel's TAT in a few moments. I'll make sure to give you a readout of the temperatures. Intel's C2D E6850 is stock @ 3.0GHz. I'm an OC novice so I used ASUS's BIOS utility to get a 10%-15% (can't remember which) OC. So currently my E6850 is running @ 3.46GHz. I used the thermal paste that was pre-applied on the F7P. I heard that it was very good paste and so far it seems that it's true. I believe it's called MX-2?

And no, I didn't lap the heatsink and no, I didn't have to remove the motherboard to install the F7P.

-Edit 1: I seem to be having trouble running Intel TAT. Everytime I load it up, I get an error message; Error enumerating On Demand Clock Modulation support. Terminating Tool. I'm not sure why I'm getting this error.

maybe that asus utility is conflicting. do you have any other clock-gen programs running simultaneously with TAT?

I don't know why a BIOS feature like that would interfere with this program. I made sure that I was not running any other clock-gen programs running before I started it up again but to no luck. I'm still getting that same error. Odd.

well i guess you could do orthos blend and use core-temp, it would give you the same high maximum temperature. weird problem though, never heard of tat not working

I'll probably get to that tomorrow morning sometime. It's getting a bit late.

Also, I would like to note that I have mounted the AC F7P with the fan blowing air towards the top of the case. I have the Antec 900 so the top mounted 200mm fan sucks the air up and out. I feel that it's working quite well. I'm planning on purchasing another 120mm fan to mount on the side panel. That will lower the overall temperature of the northbridge and the GPU.

-Edit: I forgot to mention that I am using Core Temp 0.96 to get my temperature read outs. At the moment it states that both CPU #0 and #1 are @ 30C. I have seen them get as low as 28C at the same time.

So you didn't have to remove the mobo at all when you installed the AC F7P? Good to hear. I'm getting mine in the mail on Friday. Was it hard to push the pins through?

Since it uses the same Intel push-pin mounting, it is STRONGLY recommended to remove the MB from the case to mount it.

Ditto. My CoolerMaster HyperTX2 were like that too. Best to remove mobo, to ensure a solid mount.
