All we use ours for is watching BR-DVDs and regular DVDs. I like racing games and the controller sucks for those.

Sony can still save things. It's still outselling the 360 when compared to 360 sales this time last year. They need to cut the price in almost half though. Even the 360 is too much.

I don't even consider it an adult's video game system. Its not even in the same category.
Adults can only play super serious titles like 100-hour RPGs and first-person shooters, otherwise they aren't adults, right?

You're not technically an adult unless you spend 20-hours per week casting turn-based spells, shooting Nazi's in the face and fragging aliens!

Microsoft never sold a pathetic 82,000 X360s a month.

That's not true at all. I hate posting anecdotal evidence, but my young nephews (well, 12-15) were dying for a PS3 because of all the eye candy and "features." I think that's the target audience for xbox/ps3, pre-teen boys who play violent games full of explosions and such. Won't knock that, I really like the GTA games myself.

I know about a dozen people who play Wii all the time - they all adore it and they're all in their 20s. It's growing to be a great party system for adults and it's really changing the landscape in my opinion - people who would never buy a game system are waiting on line for the Wii because Wii Sports and Paper Mario are just too much wacky, party/drunken fun.

I don't see the point in analyzing the success of new-born consoles. After the release, it's all about the titles and longevity. Shelf life and all that jazz.

Wait a few years and then the data will be conclusive.

My wife and I are a perfect example as to why the Wii is trouncing the rest. I'm 36, and I used to be an avid PC gamer. My wife has never been much of a gamer, though she does like some of the zelda games. Now with kids etc, we just don't have the time to waste on games like we might have before. I don't want some expensive "do it all" machine with a zillion options and complicated RPS games. I want a simple, easy to use fun game we can just play when we get a chance. The Wii does just that and more -- it has an innovative controller as well.

So, what did we end up buying? The Wii of course. Ditto for everyone else we know in our age range. Nothing wrong with xbox 360 and the like, but the market for a much simpler game console like the Wii is waaaaaaay bigger.

Playing a certain game does not make you an adult. But Nintendo has been aimed towards children for quite a while. Its like watching PG-13 movies. Eventually there will be some good ones. I cant remember the last time I've seen a PG movie.

The long term verdict might not be in just yet (it's a little too soon), but without the initial momentum, the console enters a downward spiral that's hard to get out of. With few units sold, it doesn't make sense for game developers to make a great exclusive game for that console. Without great (preferably exclusive) games, there is little reason for the consumer to spend premium bucks on a premium console.... and the cycle continues. To get out of the cycle, sony's going to have to drop the price on the console significantly, and they are going to have to pay some developers to develop exclusive titles for the PS3.

Granted the PS3 was met with far less success than its predecessors, but it's not like Sony can't afford to drop the price and pay for exclusive titles.

Agreed, it's a little too soon.

Compare the upcoming exclusives across all platforms and it looks like a pretty even field to me.

PS3: Uncharted, Eye of Judgement, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Lair, Ratchet & Clank, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, MGS4, SingStar

Wii: Mario Party 8, Metroid Prime 3, My Sims, Pokemon, RE: UC, Super Mario Galaxy, SSBB

360: BioShock, Blue Dragon, Forza2, Halo3, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, PGR4, Splinter Cell, Too Human

I don't even own a Wii, XBOX 360, or PS3 (I do play 360 with my friends quite often though). So personally, I have nothing 'invested' in this.

What happened to the Nintendo brand during the PlayStation era? They sold a hundred million of NES+SNES up to that point.
