Be sure to top off the flash fluid when you get the tune up. It's a costly mistake I learned the hard way by not doing it.

Ya', the thing could rocket off, if you don't watch yourself.

I use my powershot daily, taking close to 70 pics a day for the last 6mo. Do I wear it out by using it so much? Does it matter? Will it die at the same time either way? Not using it for 2 mo, or using it on a daily bases? Just curious if I should put some maintainence into it. They are really hassle free, and I got to have my digital photography!

😎 I'm planning on retiring my old A40. This A95 Model sounds great

Already did exactly that about 8-9 months ago and absolutly love the upgrade. I love the camera...and its semi metal case...and the rotatable lcd screen overall

By the way...i've taken about 11,000 pictures with both cameras in about 3 years....took 2,000 with the a95 when went to India for three weeks.

Actually, your media may be approaching the end of it's useful life. Most flash memory (and yes, ALL media cards are a form of flash memory) is good for about 1000 rewrites... Assuming you only have one card that holds a day's pics, you've used it 10x as long as you should.

Even if he rewrites once a day (that's extremely excessive), he theoretically has ~3 years, which is quite a lot.

OH YEAH. Damn, I don't know where my thought process was on that one.

OBVIOUSLY if you use something you are causing it to break down and shorten its lifespan, but thats what you bought it for...to use! if you let it sit there for 2 months and use it again, you will not gain any life for the camera, it will just last a longer amount of time, not produce more pictures overall.

Not all parts wear from use. Some do degrade after each use, some do not. Most solid state electronics don't degrade appreciably with use, and can be used for decades.

The flash and the moving parts will wear, though.

yeah this thread is competely worthless. it doesnt need an oil change, you moron. just keep taking pictures and stop making threads.

You douche, it does need maintainence. All things do.

Does the sun need maintenance? Does space or time?

70 pics per day with an A95? That's helluva lot. If you were a pro making a living by covering daily events with your DSLR - that's one thing. But an A95? Did you install it in the ladies restroom in college or what?

DSLRs have a shutter and mirror mechanism that obviously has a limited life. Prosumer models are designed for 50K actuations on average, while the professional models are designed for 150K or more (I have heard of a Nikon F5 with 1M actuations - that's over 270 pictures a day for 10 years!). P&S's have fewer moving parts (aperture, lens zooming and focusing mechanism would be the big ones other than switches), but they are designed to be practically disposable, so I wouldn't even want to guess how long you could expect the camera to last - and they're certainly not designed to be serviceable in the same way that a (D)SLR is.

I see that he removed his post due to the math, but I wanted to address the other comment he made and point out that not all media cards are a form of flash memory. Don't forget that some have little hard drives in them (microdrive).

I've shot about 30K pictures on my old sony p-71. I've dropped it down stairs and on concrete an uncountable amount of times. Still fires them off without a hitch.

There is no maintenece to be done on a low end point and shoot digital camera. They are made to be disposable and their price reflects that.

sandisk offers a 5 year warranty, I use a 256 card, good for a little over a week. I don't use more than 2m/p per shot for most.
