I will never work a retail position that has me dealing with cash. Stocking, floor work - sure. Not working a register ever again.

I have a part time job at BB. Its actually not a bad place to work. The best thing about having a part time job at a retail store is when customers are dicks to me, I just be a dick right back. I dont give a shit if I get fired :p

*quick story from last night*

I work up front as the greeter guy, and theres one set of doors that cleary says "DO NOT ENTER" on them that customers are not supposed to leave through. Some guy was walking out and headed for those doors so I said, "sir could you exit through the other doors please?". He said, "No, I'll go out these doors if I feel like it".

He walks up to them and they dont open. They are not set to open from movement inside the doors. He stood there for about 10 seconds before realizing they wouldnt open. Finally he walks past me to go through the correct doors. I almost said something, but decided he already felt like a fool, no need to try.

haha lol. but should I act stupid or smart? like A person came in saying they had a "Disk read error" they guy is like ok you need a new hard drive, when really all you needed was a reformat I am willing to bet. So Make money or make customer happy. But "Customers come first" so which would be best in an eyes of a manager, in case they ask me some question like that lol.

I worked at a circuit city as Christmas help a few years back. I would always tell the customers how it was instead of some bs. I just couldn't bring myself to sell something when i knew it was 1/4 of the price online. It also pissed me off that they would actually not let me sell a computer without a service plan. My manager even told us to say it was out of stock if they refused. I usually just sold them anyway because i hate being a dick. But, they didn't keep me on after the holidays like some of the other dickheads who would constantly lie.

So to answer your question, if you want to keep your job forget telling the truth and sell everything you can.

it was the worst job i've ever had.

good luck.

If your really that dead set on getting the job go to the store in person and talk to the hiring manager. If the hiring manager isn't in speak to another manager that has some pull and hopefully they'll pass the message along that your ready to work.

Stop calling and go there in person and ask for the HR manager or walk the sales floor and find the MOD and talk to them.

Or go to the department you want to work in and ask if the person who runs that department is working and talk to them.

Phone calls are worthless because they take managers away from what they are doing. You'll be lucky if they take your name and look at your application from a phone call.

Most of the time I get phone calls about jobs I just tell them I am not looking at applications or when I do look if I see something I like I will call them.

BTW don't get too excited about getting a seasonal job at BB or any place else. They lower the standards since they only need the people for two months at most.

Also... try Target too, they hiring lots and lots of people seasonally and they don't get a lot of people who want to work electronics.

Well I am not looking for a Seasonal job, Part-Time/Full time. I got all this free time after classes .

So instead of sitting around on Atot going to work and make money

The problem with me going to the store is umm the section I want to work in is Busy 100% of the time... I figured calling would be easier and faster just to let them know I applied.

If I did go and talk to the HR Manager or the MOD in the section I want to work in, What would I talk about specifically? What I want to say on the phone is basically "hi my name is ... I applied for a position in Electronic sales and I am eager to start work"

Should I just do the same and let the convo pick up I guess?

Thanks for all the tips guys

I couldn't do it. I can't sell people on overpriced shit when I know there is a very reasonable alternative.

sometimes they have decent stuff for sale comparatively, especially for people who want to be able to return it no hassle.

That's the only big downside of internet wares is that any return is a gargantuan pain in the ass

Have fun at Best Buy, I worked at Circuit City while I got my feet on the ground and it's a very relaxing job.

Worst stuff is the "ra ra" type atmosphere and "competition" you have with the other stores, i'm assuming its not much diff. I also worked at a KB Toys shop doing retail while in college.

I guess if you show any motivation at all, such as showing up at work sober, you could probably run the place in 2 years

Don't argue with the adult. Go to the fucking store. You won't be taken seriously if you call them and bother them 3 times a day.

Hope you get it. I've been looking for a second parttime job and applied at places like McDonald's and Del Taco and never got a call back from any of them.

Ok, so I am going to call one more time, if still no dice ill go in person tomorrow.

I will try to leave a message for the hiring manager so I don't have take them away from their work.

my message will be like what I would say in person or on the phone "hi my name is ... an associate of yours told me you where hiring, so I applied for a position in electronic sales, I am eager to start work asap. My number is on my application but for convenience its 000 000 0000" Sound good?

Thanks for the help guys

Whenever I answered the phone and it was somebody that put in an application I would kinda poke my head around to see if a manager was nearby. Generally there wasn't and I would instantly reply "Sorry he's busy atm, call back later." or "I don't think we are hiring atm, you can try back later if you want though" If they would try to give me their name, I would let them, but I never wrote it down or passed any message along. I can almost garauntee that this is what happens when you call. People are a LOT harder to ignore in person.

Go in person, ask for the hiring manager. If they aren't in, ask for the general manager. If they aren't in ask for the section manager that you are applying to. If nobody is there CALL BULLSHIT. That place absolutely has a manager in the store that you can talk to.

When you get somebody tell them who you are and that you applied. Let them know you are an eager worker, willing to put in hours neccesary. Willing to work anytime youre not in class etc. Ask where there are job openings and stress you are willing to work in any department. Applying to just one department is not going to work out well. Remember the persons name and refer to them as by that name with mr or ms. Show respect. Make your conversation short and to the point. When you end the conversation find some way to remind them of your name.

Customers aren't always the greatest, but the BB I worked had was in a part of town where people from the hood could go, and people with a lot of money could go. So I saw all walks of life.

Congrats. I kinda miss working retail sometimes. I met some of my lifelong friends back in CompUSA in 1999. :)

EDIT: ALSO! If they give you the questionairre, ONLY answer ALWAYS AGREE, or ALWAYS DISAGREE, do not choose anything in between!!!

I didn't know that about the questionairre...is that true, for sure? I filled that thing out a couple weeks ago and answered the inbetweens quite a few times. You think I could get away with just going in and talking about it? Should I get my hair cut?

FUCK!

Actually?
