Between the new panels and Tiger, I think I'm in love.

PS Dullard, the G5's can currently do up to 8GB, the G4s were 4GB(32bit).

All that "power" yet can address only 8GB of physical ram? Sorry but I am extremely disappointed! This system should be able to handle 64GB as a minimum-maximum and 256GB would be much better!

Cheers!

You're joking, but just to be clear...

16 GB is supported (with 8 memory slots), but effectively it's only 8 MB, because it's impossible to find 2 GB DDR400 DIMMs.

Drooooooooooooooooooool... I am so tempted to get that 20" display. Although it is about 500 out of my budget and i would need a new video card as well. :(

edit: Finally, firewire and usb2.0 in a monitor....hmmm was it one firewire or two? 2 would make sense, 1 for ipod, 1 for isight.

Sigh. I'm not joking. 4GB DIMMS are readily available. Higher density chips are right around the corner folks. This thing will be obsolete by the time it hits the shelves. :p (in the eyes of a high end user)

The Power Macs don't support ECC.

Shakes head.

Cheers!

Heh, only $3500 each. So, only $14000 to get 32 GB RAM. Bar-goon! :p

----

BTW, that dual-DVI Geforce 6800 Ultra can drive TWO 30" screens. :Q

That would be quite the setup.

The Power Mac product manager essentially stated as much two weeks ago when intimating how hard it is to get the G5 into a laptop or consumer desktop.

Right now, it would also bite into Power Mac sales as well.
Yeah, although he specifically made the comment that the PowerBook G5 and the 3 GHz Power Mac would not appear in 2004, but didn't make the same comment for the iMac G5. So there's still hope for this summer.
Tom Boger did mention the iMac (just not in name). From one of many similar articles:
Boger also said today that users shouldn't expect to see a PowerBook G5 before the end of the year because of the challenges of putting the G5 in a small enclosure.

Anyone that has seen the heatsink from a Power Mac G5 knows that it wouldn't fit in a portable computer. This is the challenge that faces Apple as it tries to move its product line to the new fast processor technology.

"I think it's important to realize that the technical challenges are not trivial putting that G5 in a PowerBook or anything else and not to expect a G5 anytime soon in a PowerBook -- certainly not before the end of the year," said Boger.

While Boger didn't give a time frame for an iMac G5, he did say the company faced similar challenges getting a G5 to work with their consumer desktop.

"It's the same story -- the challenges are obvious when you look at the G5 and the size of the heatsinks and the enclosure; that would be a heck of a challenge as well."

Boger mentioned the iMac, but he did NOT say it would be delayed until 2005. OTOH, he explicitly made that statement for the PowerBook G5.

Draw your own conclusions. I think it's safe to say no iMac G5 before fall at the earliest. :p

The iMac is definitely overdue for a speed bump though; no reason not to at least match the PowerBook in CPU speeds.

Yep, especially since the G4 1.5 is a drop-in replacement, both pin-wise, and heat-wise.

However, I think they're just waiting to push out the G5 1.8... soon...

with the kind of market apple has, it doens't make sense to come out with a speed bump in processing power every month or 2, like intel and amd. it would simply piss their customers off.

powerbook g5 is a valid gripe. i suppose it's tough getting it into such a slim chassis design.

Great thing about these monitors besides the best looking and 16ms is the price!!

Nothing in 23" can come close to this $1999 or $1799 education pricing. The cheapest 23" which support these features are the HPL2335 or BenQ FP231W both over $2600 at pricegrabber!

Even the 20" ($1299 or $1,169.00.edu) is'nt a bad deal only a couple more than the ever popular Dell and Veiwsonic VP210 which arn't even wide screens like the apple is.

The 30" has no match, just awesome.

Full specs

These all work with PC's:D

IBM makes a kickass 23" (maybe a bit smaller) TFT screen with higher resolution (3840x2400) that they sell at UNC's computer store...no clue what video card it needs though. Price is $8399.

The L2335 goes for $1699 from HP and has far better support of inputs and pivoting ability.

Why pay more when the Dell is physically bigger and has more pixels?

For the 23" category, yes they are both 16ms and almost certainly use the same LG-Philips panel. HP and BenQ seem to have gotten first dibs on the new 16ms panels.

if they are 16ms....did they sacrifice color accuary to do that? If so, wouldn't that give less a reason for artists to use those moniters?
