Apple should be fined for still using proprietary port

Seriously, when every single phone maker in the world is using micro USB and even apple phones can be charged using Samsung’s charger (plug apple cable into USB port) why the HELL does Apple still use its proprietary port??? It's not like its data transfer rate is any faster or anything... and now they have only 8 pins instead of 8000. Every single device phone/tablet, manufactured by Google Microsoft Blackberry Samsung Nokia HTC, you name it, uses the same freaking port, EXCEPT for Apple. Hell, even Apple manufactures its crap next door to its counterpart's sweat shop in China. What is the fvcking rational? I don’t think they make any more money by selling the accessories.
We have Samsung phones and Asus and Nexus tablets at home, all can be universally charged in any room of the house, yes, almost every room in the house has a wall USB charger with micro USB cable. My wife's work only offers fragging iPhones so she has the 5, she forgot her charger (cable) at work and is off for 10 days, she ended up borrowing neighbors cable, what a hassle, screw Apple. I think they should be fined by the govt for adding to more electronic waste.
Anyways I ended up buying 2 cables for $2.35 on ebay, will get them next week, I bought it because I know the same situation will arise again during Christmas...
We are planning to go on a road trip; can I just carry one charger/cable and maybe one more backup cable? NOOOOOOOO you have to carry this additional piece of sh1t coz you committed the sin of using Apply crap... It’s just sick.

I dunno. It's never been a big issue for me. I do tend to think of things that might go wrong and plan ahead though. I think my house has both kinds of chargers in almost every room.

how will hipsters feel superior compared to you if their ports are the same as everyone else's for the sake of convenience and uniformity? They're not sheeple like you inferior beings.

i dont think you can get all those docking controls to work over a standard micro USB

thats pretty much the only benefit to apples connector

i'm glad i'm not glued to mobile devices and don't have to worry about stupid shit like that. i have 1 charger for my phone that i put my phone on every night before i go to bed. it's just sitting in the kitchen on the counter. wife also has an apple phone so we can use the same charger if need be.

I remember some old phones, had split slot, regular changer went into one end, used for charging only, and a wider attachment could use the entire port for data connectivity and such, Apple can easily do that if they want.

Licensing. Apple is making a killing licensing third party speakers and cars and all sorts of shit with its proprietary cable. Plus they make a shit load more money selling you a way overpriced proprietary cable.

How about you just don't buy Apple's trash? Everything they create is designed to give control to Apple. If you want control, take it, and don't reward bad behavior.

They're not just USB ports, they're dock connectors. iThings tend to work much better for docking with sounds systems etc.

That's a long rant... but I read every bit of it. What frustrates me more than the proprietary port though is that they changed the proprietary port with the iphone 5's. I have tons of old iPod/iPhone cables lying around that aren't good anymore. Even if the new one is better

the thing is micro USB isn't designed to deliver much power, it's alright for a phone but not so much for a tablet (it'll charge but slower) so it makes more sense to go with a single proprietary connector for all their devices rather than fragmenting the connectors in their own product line.

wow--that is truly amazing. It's like, the first time Apple has ever changed a proprietary port from one cycle to another. How truly insidious of them--this must be frustrating to Apple users....

Not only that but Micro USB is crap for longevity, those stupid ports snap off so easily on the cable! I don't like that Apple uses a proprietary port, but those new tiny Lightning plugs are amazingly strong.

over priced? i just bought a new apple cable at office depot for $3.50.

Totally agree. It's stupid and one of many reasons I do not buy their products.

Bullshit. 2A is 2A whether delivered over Apple's bullshit cable or over microUSB.

Apple's thing is non-conformity through conformity. It's the hipster way.

ive had the opposite experience. ive never had a micro usb go bad and they charge just fine on my kindles and samsung tablet. however apple cords seem a lot more fragile and i have had to replace several.

I've used mini/micro USB cables for years and never had any issue. The crap iphone cable I had broke after a year.
