Apple Notebook Event

hope it includes MacBooks and not just Pros. My frankenMacBook just kicked the bucket again and I don't feel like reviving it again. Curious to see what they'll have in that segment before I buy something else.

It will definitely include the 13" Macbooks...those haven't been updated the longest and need LED-backlit screens and Multi-touch trackpads!

I hope that $800 price point rumor is true

I'd take it even at $999. Anything under $1,000 for normal consumers would be awesome and much more competitive (not comparing hardware-for-hardware, just general target budget availability...I think it's Circuit City that has a newly-introduced 17" Compaq laptop on sale for under $600 with rebates right now).

So if the event is 10/14, when do you think we'll be able to get our hands on one?

I hope within a week of the announcement. Typically they announce and you can order within a day or so. At least that's what happened with the Santa Rosa Macbook Pro's last Summer.

We'll see...

k

this will be my first mb/mbp so...

and uh a birthday gift to myself...yeah, that's it...

Yup.. my office wants to get me a new machine, so this is perfect timing. 😀 Personally I'd wait until the second revision, but I'll be glad to let them pay for my early adoption.

I'm definitely curious to see what this has to offer, but I still want to see something pretty impressive before I give up my beloved C2D Macbook. If these new ones:

A: Are aluminum
B: Come in Nano-esque colors
C: Have a discrete graphics card

and have a battery life comparable with current Macbooks (4-5 hours) I suppose I might be tempted enough to trade up.

I guess maybe I'm just desperately trying to convince myself I didn't buy a Macbook at the worst possible time 🙁

Hmm.. so you think it'll have the new Nehalem? I'm thinking those still won't be out until 2009. If they are Nehalem, I will be SUPER stoked!

i7 has been rumored for launch for the Sept/Oct time frame for a couple of months now. I can't see Apple pulling the trigger on a major notebook remodel with Penryn only to have to turn around and revamp them in March with i7.

Apple also seems to have a VERY favorable relationship with Intel. I would put the probability of i7 in new MacBooks next week at 100%.

Wow.. that would be awesome. I definitely didn't want to believe that they'd launch new models with only a small speed bump.

Look at what Apple got Intel to do with the Air. Although not a completely different chip design since they were planning on going that small with the i7, but they never intended to go that small with the Penryn and Apple got them to do it. Same with the 3.0GHz Quad Xeons, Apple was the first to market with them, and had them for months before anyone else.
