Why not get a tablet PC instead? With that at least you get something tangible for the extra money.

Hes got a point. He can learn to use a mac.

I was seriously thinking of getting a mac also a few months back. Get one from HK as I have friends over their, and they are imported from the states.

Depends on how good the laptops are in a few years.

They are nice.

Paying $450 extra for style *isn't* so bad if you think about it. You are going to have one laptop and not go and buy another any time soon right? So paying $450 for style isn't so bad if you think about it. I like things to look nice but I have my limits. I wouldn't pay over $1k for how it looks though! Thats just TOO much.

Now the battery life of the new centrino's look interesting:D Can't wait to see what comes out on a laptop in 3yrs time. Maybe upgrade then and give my laptop to my bro. My laptop weights 1.65kg!

"ONLY style? Show me a notebook with the same dimensions, same functions, for the same price."

Marty's configuration doesn't meet these requirements, and than some, for a LOT less money, AND more power?

Style, eh?

There's a reason people get a Mercedes and not a Subaru Impreza. It's about style. You can mod a Civic that it runs faster then a stock Corvette, which one would you rather drive?

If I were to buy a lappy I would want the best battery life available, performance is a distant second in my considerations

The Powerbook does pretty well with battery power and I already have a mac and like it quite alot (although a very old 200MHz PPC machine with OS9) so I would consider getting one if I were in the market for a lappy. That or one of these new Pentium-M machines... as long as the batt lasts at least about 4 hours I'm good.

It's like I said about 40 posts ago. You're a style over substance kind of guy. Takes all kinds to make a world...

In this particiular case, yes. But not in general. OTOH, the new Powerbooks DO have some nice features.

so what do you guys do with your laptops, i've never seen the need for one, especially one so powerful.

I have about a 40minutes train ride to work, so I could work up stuff on the way.

In a notebook, performance is only 2nd priority IMO.

I agree. when i bought my laptop 18 months ago, the PIII 1 ghz w/ Geforce 2 go, was a MAX performer. it has all the bells and whistles including a DVD/CD-RW combo drive. Sweet machine but i'd gladly have traded it for a smaller machine w/ less performance. most of what i do with a laptop does not require top end performance.

Well, I see two different directions for PC laptops and now Apples...
1) ultrapowerful it's-got-everything laptop mainly for people that don't wanna own a desktop (Apple doesn't really have something like this actually)
2) ultraportables that give up builtin stuffs to make it lighter

I know that there are some people that don't mind extra weight and don't own desktops so they pick choice 1... most people with a desktop already would be more attracted to choice 2 (or a TabletPC or PDA).

You can get a stylish PC notebook too... plus, I prefer Sony's industrial design over Apple's anywho. Sony's Picturebook is pretty cool as are their Z1s and V505.

Sony's support plain sucks. Experienced it quite a few times. I would never buy an Apple Desktop. But for notebooks, they make really neat stuff.

seriously, most people don't "need" ultra power performance in their laptop. size/weight is what matters when you type your paper or surf:p apple puts out a quality package.

12" isn't small if thats how big your laptop is:p

combine a tiny lappy with a 10hr valence n charge external battery and u have insane battery life with about 7lb total:p
