a fujitsu p2000 is 3.4 lbs with a dvd/cdrw, 933mhz crusoe, and a 6 hour theoretical battery life (12 with the swappable battery). 10.4" widescreen lcd, and a ton of other stuff.

LOL. Yeah. Any modern videocard on a Intel/AMD laptop will spank that Mac book graphics. Check out the GeForce FX for the laptops! Or the latest Radeon. They are faster than many desktop out there.

what do I need a fast graphics card for in a notebook?

LAN parties! a lappy is WAY easier to carry there!! :)

Yeah, lets play FPS with the touchpad :D

You can plug a keyboard and mouse into the laptop.... there is a guy that always goes to our LAN parties with his laptop.. aside from the smaller screen... it works perfect for him!!

Well yeah, of course you _can_ :)

My point is, the 12" Powerbook is just schweeeeeeeeet and not too expensive.

Just as I thought, style over substance. Are you also, by any chance, a swishy kind of guy? :D

Heh... me too. I want a nice Powerbook to surf, play music and work on homework.

Of cource, I'd never buy one for that outrageous price. But if they came down some I might consider picking one up at some point.

Don't tell me the Powerbooks have no substance. If I can get the SAME features, PLUS awesome styling, yes, I'm goin' with the style :)

I don't know. I think it was a desktop, but then they stepped on it until it became smaller. At 3.06 GHz and with that videocard.. And both hard drives... probably an hour and a half :)

Do you spend hours getting ready to go out? Do you spend a fortune on shoes and your wardrobe?

The ONLY thing a PB has going for it is "style". It gets owned in performance, price etc.. Come to think of it, it's PERFECT for you!

Games. Desktop publishing. 3d design. Games.

Desktop publishing? A good old Matrox Millenium II would be still perfect for Desktop publishing! 3D Design? Care to elaborate? And games? no way I wanna play games on my notebook.

the question is why would you want to buy a notebook that limits what you can do with it?

You guys make Office for the Mac, plus, I don't know anyone which the first priority is to play games on a notebook.

Where does the Apple Powerbook has it limits expect for games?

Dunno.. my Powerbook does everything my XP2000+ desktop does but it does it better and more cleanly with less guff from the OS.

64MB Radon Mobility 9000 video card lets me play games if I want, which I don't b/c I have an Xbox for that reason.

If I have windows-only apps, I just run Virtual PC. Problem solved.

In a notebook, performance is only 2nd priority IMO.

exactly :D

why cant people see that you dont need a fetchin powerhouse of a notebook?? I would choose portability over performance anyday.

I honestly don't understand why you'd want one of those.

Apple:
12"
860mhz
256 ram
40 gb hd
gf4 go 32mb
combo drive
+the usual stuff
4.6lbs

for $1800

Fujitsu:
13"
XP 1700+
256
40GB
Radeon 16mb
combo drive
+the usual stuff
4.5lbs

For $1350

I mean, really. You wanna pay $450 for style?

i agree. my laptop is a used Thinkpad X20. PIII 600MHz. 3.5lbs. Perfect for my needs.

although different people have different needs. there are people who need lots of computing power in their laptops.
