Apple iPods catching fire?

I've seen more & more media coverage about iPods catching on fire, anyone know someone who's iPod burned up?

yeap same.

seems that Apple is sending them out new units if people sign agreements saying they won't talk about it.

I've never heard of this happening, and practically everyone I know has one.

It's one of those things that ends up on the news because it's so rare, yet forum goers and apple haters will use it as a disadvantage when considering an mp3 player.

Ive had 4 ipods. Every mp3 player Ive had has been apple. Apple products have a habit of catching on fire.

My idea for a pc commercial.

Chubby pc guy standing there with a blank stare, obviously locked up

Little condescending effiminate guy: " PC" snaps fingers twice in front of pcs face

Little condescending effiminate guy: "Must be lock, AAAAAAaaaaagh"

Little condescending effiminate guy Busrts into flames and runs around in circles a few times falling dead into a pile of ash.

Chubby pc guy blinks twice and looks around and sees the crumpled body of the mac guy and smiles gently.

Yea, who would hate on Apple for trying to cover it up?

I've never owned an mp3 player of any type. I prefer the superior sound quality from *wav files with a $24,000 power cable.

Apple even tries to silence people.

According to that article the settlement doesn't say you can't talk about your iPod exploding, it says you can't talk about the settlement. Big difference. Keeping settlements confidential is a normal practice.

Apple sells 200 million iPods, a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent catch fire. With no indication if the cause could have possibly been faulty wiring in the persons house, or improper use. I would say this shouldn't even be a story at all. I can make anything catch fire if I want to 😀

NO, but I can put gasoline in the water and when that burns I can go "water burning seeee!" The water wouldn't be burning but I could make people believe it. iPods don't catch on fire, not enough to report on. People hate Apple so this becomes a story

"R U SERIOUS!?! 100 out of 200,000,000 iPods have caught on fire. OMG they're a fire hazard down with Apple!!!"

Meh, lithium ion battery problems are somewhat common with portable devices, I remember Dell had to recall a bunch a while back. Kind of sucks that Apple is going to receive all the bad PR for this when the blame probably lies with some cheap Chinese battery manufacturer.
