I have one, and it was easier for me to burn my mp3s to CD, take them to work, and transfer them with my Mac than using XPlay.

I haven't tried EphPod yet...I think I should. :)

I'm looking at purchasing one too. I'd hold off for a bit though -- Toshiba has started making the 10 gig drive, and I'm included to believe the rumors that Apple is going to offer the iPod at 10 gigs for the same price.

I want one too, but the 90 day warranty on a $400 toy is CRAP. What the hell is with Apple and thier subpar warranty's and tech support?

I don't want to end up with a $400 paper weight on day 91 because the hard drive stopped spinning or something.

Btw, Apple will gladly repair your out-of-warranty iPod for $255.

I also want an iBook, those are sweet, but iTunes 2.x still has issues. I think I'm gonna hold off for a while.

yes, i'm still short $400. i'm working on it. 90day warranty sounds really really bad. also, this ephpod thing is interesting. it seems i have to get either macdrive2000 or macopener to use it. what do you guys reccommend? still seeking more information/feedback on the ipod.

Like what? I use it with OS 9.2.1 and OS X with no problems.

Just what I've read on the Apple discussion forums. I guess iTunes doesn't rip audio to well from cd's? Several reports of pop's and clicks when ripping cd's. Also, some reports of "kernel panics" or crashes with iTunes. I'm not faulting iTunes, I'm sure it's a fine product. As we all know; people with problems are much quicker to complain then one's who are happy.

...I'm not sure about it's encoding quality, although I've heard you can still use LAME with it.

anyone else read the article where the guy with the ipod walks into his compusa and transfers MS Office XP to his ipod? Not saying you should get the ipod to do this or even do this with an ipod or whatever, but it's kinda cool :/ All i've heard about the ipod are good things so far, well not good but absolutely fantastic.

Not only is that higly illegal, immoral and dishonest...

It is also REALLY F-CKIN' COOL!!!

I know a couple Mac lovers who have iPods and love them! I have seriously been contemplating getting one too, but the sketchy software situation and the high price tag have made me wait. I am sure a firewire PC MP3 player will arrive shortly.

Um... there was a guy selling them new on eBay for $329. He's got decent feedback so that seems like an excellent deal. Just do a search if iPod on eBay.

Like another member said, hold out 'cause Apple is probably gonna upgrade the iPod to a 10gig harddrive. Macworld Tokyo is Mar 21st thru 24th (something like that) and if they announce a "new" iPod it will probably be then. So, in short, wait a few weeks to see if a new iPod comes out.

<< ah, you're just looking for excuses not to spend the money :p >>

not really, just wanted to see how many people have it and if it's stable enough for me to get one. i still want it pretty badly.

yea, i will be waiting probably until the beginning of april until they annouce the macworld stuff. if they do announce the 10gig one, i'll probably wait for it to come out. i also heard rumors of it being windows compatible, but i think that's a huge lie.

Actually, you might be surprised at what software doesn't require the registry/windows directory settings/files to work. I have my drive partitioned into several parts, and photoshop installed on my Apps drive. I've formatted the OS partition several times, photoshop still works. Many games work as well. It's kind of nice, actually, I can keep my start menu clutter free by just having one folder with shortcuts to my programs (like photoshop and such).

But more on topic.

I've looked at the ipod too a little, check General Hardware, there's a thread about a month ago about using it on a PC. I classify the ipod as "gateway hardware" though, I know Iif I buy one, I'm going to be so impressed that I'll just have to buy an ibook to go along with it. And I can't afford to dump $1600 on an ibook+ipod :)
