Hmm... decisions, decisions, decisions. I wonder how cheap the 5 gig ones'll get on eBay now.

Why would you want an iPod to begin with?

Observe

-10GB
-marginally larger than iPod
-Color LCD 237 x 234 pixels.
-USB 2.0 & Firewire
-Stereo Digital Line In/Out, Stereo Analog Line In, Stereo Analog Line Out/Earphone Jack. Composite Video Output (to connect to a TV). Built-in microphone.
-Plays MPEG4
-Price: 399.95

Now why would anyone want an iPod?

Alright! 10gb version even nicer. Although it's even pricier :) The new 1.1 iPod firmware is a welcome addition too.

The iPod will be able to play Mpeg4 shortly. Quicktime 6 has already been anounced and it will support mpeg4 once mpeg-LA fixes their licencing issues. Once quicktime 6 is out the iPod will be updated to support it. Current iPod will be OK because they can be flashed again.

If you have the money I'd say go ahead and buy one. Everyone I hear says that they love their iPods. Just get a case for it because they scratch easily. I'm jealous. They are WAY too expensive for me.

hey...just thought that I'd revive this thread after visiting a few sites:

iPodHacks.com
iPodLounge.com
Apple - They're even ENGRAVING them now! ;) (and it's only $40 MORE) ;D HAHAHAHA!

Hey LaBang or anyone did this:

Like what? I use it with OS 9.2.1 and OS X with no problems.

Just what I've read on the Apple discussion forums. I guess iTunes doesn't rip audio to well from cd's? Several reports of pop's and clicks when ripping cd's. Also, some reports of "kernel panics" or crashes with iTunes. I'm not faulting iTunes, I'm sure it's a fine product. As we all know; people with problems are much quicker to complain then one's who are happy.

...I'm not sure about it's encoding quality, although I've heard you can still use LAME with it.
>>

Im not an audiofile, but I have had no problems with iTunes. The quality is fine with me. I havent had any crashes or anything like that either. Not calling you a liar or anything, just saying I had good experiences ;)

I want an iPod too, but dont have the money for it.

My friend picked up the 5gig one from the UCLA store for like 269 (student price) He is using Ephpod. Hee was using macopener and got a stable 1.5mb/s transfer rate. He read about macdrive. He tried it out and found that i had speeds from 4.5-7mb/sec. YMMV He is using win2k. I think it's a sic little toy, and if I was in the market for an mp3 player, I'd get an IPod in a heartbeat.

A guy at work picked up the Rio Riot and it's ALOT bigger and heavier. I didn't like the interface. The IPod has a clean interface, easy to use buttons, plus the backlighting on the screen was much cooler than the Riot. Granted the riot is 20gb compared to 5/10.
