I wonder if there's any way for existing iPhone customers to get the new hardware but keep the old rate plan and thus not incur a 2 year renewal or the new $30/month data rate.
Hmm, I think you can deactivate the $30 data plan online immediately after you sign up.

So the *cheapest* plan would be the $40 for the phone but no data? Will they let you do that? I really don't care that much if I have data since I have wi-fi at most places and I don't need to browse when I don't.
$40 isn't too bad for a 2 year plan (not great though) but $70 is too high - especially since I wouldn't use the data plan anyway.

Wait until the 3rd-party navigation software is available through App Store. Imagine Telenav with OpenGL-accelerated 3D mapping.Originally posted by: BD2003
Man, I am so sold. I was waiting for proper GPS, and even though it seems like the mapping software might not be up to snuff, I have read that tomtom is already ready to rock.
The lower pricing is just icing on the cake. With this one device, I can replace my ipod, my gps and my cell phone, and that will more than cover the cost of the phone itself.
SWEET!
All thats needed now is a proper car dock that can power it and output that audio...hopefully in landscape.

They are unlockable, you don't have to sign a contract, they allow direct access to the filesystem (no need to use iTunes to move your music and videos around), you can get Skype and other SIP clients for it now...Its amazing that after the WWDC keynote, 1st Gen iphones on ebay are still over retail ($400+)
