I am a noob here.. What does share buyback achieve?


X # of shares in the market. If the company buys shares some back and retires them that means # of shares in the market reduced. Therefore the value of the shares left in the market are worth more.

That being said a lot of times companies buy back shares when the shares are expensive.
I don't know if this is the case for Apple at this time though. Only time will tell...

That being said I prefer dividends as long as the dividend payout does not imped a companies ability to grow and prosper.
