Companies aren't responsible for the stupidity of people, but courts like to reward people as if companies were.

The fundamental problem with lawsuits like this is that those awarding judgement side with people because it's easier to empathize with a person, regardless of how stupid they are and how much they are at fault, than a faceless organization with gobs of money.

OK, I agree with the old hag that huge glass windows or doors that are floor to ceiling and clean can appear when there's no glare as if there is no glass that at all, and that it's possible to accidently bump into it. However, I think 1,000,000 must be a joke. I don't see that fetching more than about 1,000 or maybe 10,000 if the judge is in a bad mood. I mean, how much does it cost to get to a doctors office and to get treatment for it?

What's with all the door stories? This incident involved a wall, not a door. Glass doors at businesses tend to open automatically. Not so much with doors. Floor to ceiling glass walls are pretty much invisible, especially when they are wide and there isn't a seem every 5 feet.

True, sometimes glass can be extremely clean, clear, and free of glare, making it almost indistinguishable in certain lighting conditions.

She's 88. Vision bad to begin with. Does she wear glasses? What prescription? How long ago was last vision test? What meds does she take on a daily basis? Almost ANY drug can be said to possibly affect vision, especially in someone her age. Time of day? Sun bouncing off her bifocals caused her blindness. Act of God is not sue-able. Etc, etc.

I hate Apple. I hate frivilous lawsuits even more. If I would've walked though that window when I was a kid, my father wouldn't have sued. He'd have picked me up and thrown me through the other window for being such a dumbass in the first place.
