Umm Apple has TONS of patents compared to Google in the mobile sector. Apple sues tons of people, they're definitely not the victim at all. Apple is as sue happy as everyone else in the mobile sector. Google is actually really using that argument that since they have a relatively small mobile patent portfolio compared to others, they're hoping to acquire it to protect themselves from getting sued.

Also you would think with all that money they'd be giving a lot more to charity but Steve Jobs doesn't care about anyone but himself.

I'm going to play Job's apologist here, first, his wife is a fairly active philanthropist, and Jobs is so intensely private, we wouldn't likely know what he does if he's the greatest philanthropist in the world... We'll likely know more about his activities after his death... He earns a dollar a year salary as CEO of Apple.

And as far as Apple's patents, they're pretty inconsequential compared to other companies...

people always carry on about how greedy Jobs is, he makes a whopping $1 a year salary. He couldn't buy a .99 burger from McDonalds with that buck

In all fairness the guy doesn't need a huge salary. He's already worth several billion dollars. If he does a good job and the share price of Apple goes up $50, he probably earns just as much if not more than most CEOs due to the amount of Apple stock that he owns.

I don't think he cares so much about money as designing and building the perfect product that he's envisioned in his mind. As long as boat loads of money are made in the process, investors won't question the direction that he's taken the company.

dude, steve jobs makes $1 a year, but he's making BANK on his stock options with apple. When it comes to paying dividends, he DOESN'T need the salary... his stake in apple alone will carry him for the rest of his life!

From the investor's point of view, Apple is the #1 tech company. Market Cap means how much people are investing in Apple. They are WAY above Microsoft, and has a sizable lead above Google.

Wait I'm confused. Why are they comparing just the phone making arms of companies vs all of Apple? They make more then just phones also. Samsung is a behemoth of a company even compared to Apple.

I don't think you understand the graph.

It's the CASH (or liquid assets) Apple has vs. the Enterprise Value of all the phone arms. Apple has nearly enough liquid assets to purchase all of the phone makers and phone making arms of the companies.

It's not Apple value vs. Phone only competitor value.

Plenty of CEOs make $1 salary. It's been a trend the last few years. But seriously, the Apple hate in this thread is hilarious.

No doubt.

I wonder who's smarter about business; Steve Jobs or random ATOT posters?

They have too much money! They are going to go out of business!

Nice work, apple haters. Way to try and ruin any thread that even mentions apple.

No, only Apple threads eluding to world domination or such. We don't hate apple, we love apple, really. Without apple we wouldn't have so much entertainment from the devices themselves to the apple drones to the { iDont know, insert pun here }.

But seriously, with a title like this what do you expect? If it was titled "Google could nearly buy the mobile phone industry" we would get the same crap from the apple farm. Then Zen0 would say something really stupid and the thread would get locked and so on and so on.

I don't pick sides, Oyeve. As you say, I do it with the other threads, and I'll do it to these ones too. I consider this post by you and the one further down to be trolling - the same as from any Apple fan doing it in a Android thread. As you say, we've stepped up the moderation - there's a sticky about it at the top of the forum - and it works both ways. This is a warning for you to avoid intentionally trolling threads, and calling out specific forum members.

The difference being, if it were titled "Google could nearly buy the mobile phone industry" it would be a lie. Right?

Well, yeah, duh. Both are actually "lies". Thats what makes statements like these humorous and targetable.

Actually, Apple being able to buy all the rest is true, they could easily leverage the money to do it, though the FTC wouldn't allow it. The others can't.

And love Steve Jobs or hate him, he makes $1 per year. It's not like he's greedily amassing more money than he has. Yes he doesn't give jack to charity (at least not publicly) but that's his right. And it's not like he's amassing a huge fortune going forward like other CEO's. Granted some of his stocks in Disney and Apple have gained a lot in recent years. He's basically sitting on what he has. Apple the corporation does have charitable programs. They're just not well publicized.

lol smoke and fucking mirrors

Is the market cap of AAPL really relevant to this forum? Its like posting Microsoft's financials in the Operating Systems forum.

now we're talking about company financials... in which Cash on Hand and Market Cap could be related... in a sense, market cap talks about money invested in Apple, in which they CAN use it to purchase other companies (microsoft and Nokia hehehe) if it passes among the board.

I dont think any company would "want to own the mobile market". Atari attempted to do so and nearly did in the very late 70s and early 80s when the Atari 2600 was the defacto gaming console. They got so cocky that when the dominated the home video game market they shovelled sooo much crap software down our throats and the atari masses ate it up for years until the NES and just outright killed the Atari. I think if apple is a bit smarter, love them or hate them or both (like me :) ) they are an extremely smart company but they dont want world domination. It may seem like they do, but they know who their market is and are playing a very fine game, yes, all these companies are playing the business game, and they will continue to be sucessful until 1. They make a real boneheaded move like ATTEMPT to take over the mobile world or 2. Some othe company comes out of the woodwork and makes something better, more attractive that will usurp Apple. I don't see either happening. My wish is for Apple to make an iphone that is more open like android and has 200+ GBs of storage. I actually miss using my ipod 160gb classic because its a damn fine music player but I do not have enough big pockets to hold my android vibrant phone, transformer tablet and an ipod. I am more on the android side as it suits my needs and I can add msd cards for my music. If apple could make a more open phone and with a hell of a lot more storage I would be all over it. Prior to using my ipod I used an Archos DVR 5 (I think thats what it was called). It was, IMO, the best portable video and audio player/recorder. I played raw music and video files which looked and sounded great and had, at the time, the most storage available, 100gb, which I had upgraded painlessly to 200gb. It had a beautiful 5" screen and the battery lasted like 24 hrs. It also doubled as a DVR. All that was missing was apps and wifi. I could even hook up external peripherals via usb. I know apple and others can make this in a nice small form factor but no one does because if there was a perfect product out there no one would ever buy anything ever again.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; Take it to an investment and money management forum. These threads are of no value in here and only divide an already fractured group even further.

Vote to move ALL financial threads to OT.
