And then I have to deal with the typical PC headaches, virus software or just take the risk that I don't get one because I am a smart surfer etc etc.

And now that Apple recommends one for Macs since they are suffering many virus' as well.
I have yet to see one or even hear of one.

I thought the whole Apple recommends one was just a software company trying to get some business??

I think Macs are safer because it is harder to get the files onto the computer and get them executed.

On a PC it is like "oh look a Jessica Alba sex tape!! cool" :click: "what the hell just happened to my machine?"

I had to totally reinstall Vista 3 times on my Dell due to stupid crap happening with drivers or one nasty virus. I also had all kinds of 'does not want to start" issues with the machine until I got Vista SP 1.

Again, on the Mac I have never had one major problem. Safari will die some times, but it seems that browsers die all the time due to web page makers pushing the envelop faster than the browsers makers. Those 'interactive' web ads were killing Safari till the latest upgrade.

That makes no sense. Please stop.

Perhaps you need to read this thread

About all the people who got viruses via supposed naked video of the ESPN chick.

I am a pretty advanced user and I still ended up with Virtumonde on my machine, had to do a complete reinstall the OS to remove the damn thing.

In the 20+ years I have owned Macs I have NEVER had one maleware related problem.

You're right - there's nothing else to say. Even at their worst, they are dominating Apple in terms of total profits, when Apple is at their best.
Really now... do the math.

Apple: $1.2B profit on $8.3B in sales for a 14% profit margin.

MS: $3B profit on $13.1b in sales for a 22% profit margin.

Which company is over pricing its products?

BTW
But Liddell said the rest of the calendar year, at least, will be difficult for Microsoft. That's because the software maker's success is tethered to the PC industry, which is expected to sell fewer computers this year than last ? the first such decline since 2001.
So Apple is experience sales growth while the overall industry expects to sell fewer computers than last year.

Deeko, I have both a PC and two Macs. They both have their plusses and minuses. There is no doubt at all that you can get a PC for cheaper than a Mac, especially on the desktop side. There is also no doubt, in my mind, that a Mac is a better computer for casual users. iPhoto, iMovie and iWeb give causal users all the tools they need to make high quality photos, movies and web sites right out of the box. On a PC you would have to spend decent amount of money to get all that software and it just isn't going to work together as well as the Mac software does.

If you are a power user or a gamer then get a PC. But if your 60 year old mom calls and says she wants a computer to share pics and stuff with her friends get her a Mac.

Those numbers dont really mean anything. The fact that Apple had that much in revenue compared to MS who owns almost 90% of the market says a lot.

Much more goes into profit margin than price of product V cost of production, correct?

Wow...amazing...must have been a very in depth search trying to find a laptop that can share photos.

Not as in depth as your search will be for access to our forums. I have no time and less tolerance for bigoted pricks like you.

GOOD BYE.

I think both ad campaigns are very good.

They both hit the competition where it is weakest.

PCs are prone to crashing and viruses etc.
Macs are expensive.

Two of the best run companies in the world are hitting each other where it hurts.

It is like watching Ali and Frazier go at it.

I'd argue on the "best run companies" bullshit.

But I agree  on good to see the two of them going at it like two horned up teens after the same girl in heat.

MS has almost none PC hardware sales (we can exclude the mouse and keyboard and similar operations). So even though they have 90% of the market for PCs, they may get as revenue ~$75 for each $1000 laptop. Apple will recognize the whole $1000 as revenue, accounting for the higher revenue, but lower profits margins.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the laptop hunters on funnyordie.com. Heads up though they are a little NSFW(due to language and a mooning). The Jennie one isn't that funny, but Jake and Brad are pretty good.

If it was bought on somebodies else dime the story would be different. I know that commercial wouldn't be aired, but I somehow think I wouldn't even get to keep the Macbook lol.

they give you $1,000... aren't macbooks at least $1,200?
