Apparently you can exercise yourself to death

This seems like a poorly controlled study (I didn't read the actual study). Sure, you have a higher chance of heart disease if you work out a ton and then eat like shit thinking you have "worked it all off".

If you don't control diet with a study of high exercising individuals, then drawing parallels from one thing to another gives garbage data.

"Controlled" is a complicated word here. Study design is a complex topic. For example, a randomized control trial in this area is unlikely to be done for a number of reasons (would be extremely difficult). All studies have risk of biases that need to be addressed.

Overall, there's a fair bit of data to suggest that the more you exercise the more CAC you have. However, it does not appear to increase risk for CV mortality. So keep exercising.

Side note, exercise is also associated with increased risk of prostate cancer in men, and melanoma overall. Fortunately for me, I work out in my basement.
