What *I think* those of us with our negative opinion of the performance are trying to say is that we feel that the half time of the Superbowl on prime time television at 8:00 at night on a Sunday night is not the place for it.

I don't care about the fighting of players. That's expected, although not encouraged. The commercials are moderated to some extent although I was suprised to see a farting horse . What is upsetting is that they planned this from the beginning and went through with it. It was just a terrible decision and it looks like MTV will pay a big price for it.
Haha, that is funny. MTV will pay a big price? How? The NFL needs MTV MUCH more than MTV needs the NFL. What is the NFL going to do for the next superbowl? Hire some college bands to play for half-time? OOOOO, that is exciting! If the NFL doesn't want anything to do with the NFL, so what. MTV will still be making money hand over fist.
I don't think so. The NFL is quite capable of putting on a show without MTV. All the celebs want to be in the halftime show, MTV or not. MTV is gonna take a hit over this, the halftime show is a HUGE event.

How about the fact that it happened during what should be a family event at about 8:45pm while plenty of little children were watching (including my daughter)
Billions of other children see boobies and nothing bad happens to them.
Your daughter explode or something?
I grew up in Europe and saw nudity plenty.
If you are really worried about it, you can move to Saudi Arabia. I believe it is outlawed there.

There is a big difference. We have a ratings system here in the US. This was put on during primetime and was given a PG rating. So parents should be able to feel confident in the types their kids will see based on ratings.

This went over that line.....
Boobie!
Oh noes! OMG AIEEE IEEEE etc...
It is just a boobie.
Put the crack pipe down.
no kid ever went bad seeing a boobie.
now, up tight parent's that will make them want to use drugs.

So basically you are saying I shouldn't have any control over what my kids are allowed to see or not see?

You have the full well the right to make the decison. THough it does bring up an interesting point on the matter, especially speaking of europe. I spent 2 years in europe as a kid, and it really is a different view of the human person there. Basically it is not uncommon for kids to just strip down and swim at large fountains which are the equivalent of public pools. We were ratehr "prudish" and would only go in tighty whitey's but it was really free. Areas in france people of all ages had this same mentality, the naked body isn't a foregin and disgusting thing, it is just a person. Now that is not sayinng people just go naked all the time, but a naked body is not something no one has seen, or fears for that matter. Maybe this is why I am fairly non-modest at home, I have no problems sitting in boxers, nor is it something that scares me. Even in the dorm I have no problem walking into the hall to throw stuff away, though some people lok at me like I am naked and trying to rape their children in their beds. Personally I think we need to go through a shift in mentality. Though I am marking a difference between getting over being afraid of the human body, and the crap with 6 year olds dressing like whores. Big difference between accepting the body, and having our youth turn out to looking and acting like whore. NO early sexuality is need, which is not as prevalent (or at least 15 years ago,a dn I fear may have changed) in europe as in the US.

Perhaps they'll get some decent music acts.

And, nothing wrong with letting some high-school or college bands getting into the limelight. It's called style and tradition.

Besides, I'd say most of the people watching the Superbowl are expecting to see football. Nothing else really matters. How many households are going to NOT watch the Superbowl on the account of no big name performer at halftime?

The refs don't break it up until it hits the ground. Should they take hockey off the air? I think it promotes assault when they let players fight like that.
rolleye.gif

And what is up with boxing? Should that even be shown on TV. I mean, that doesn't promote a good "family oriented atmosphere." Kids will think they can just go beat up someone.
rolleye.gif

A parents knows what happens during a Hockey or Football game. Yes, there are occasionally fights. If a parent allows their child to watch a sport, they know what they are getting into.

Parents didn't have a choice last night when Janet Jackson commited her raunchy act. Parents didn't invite their children to watch the PG rated half time show with the notion that Janet would make headlines the next morning with her nasty display.
Ok, now you know there can be boobs shown at a football game. Are you happy now? Now you can make thy decision if you want you children to watch or not. People that let their kids watch acceptable fights (hockey), would surely have no problem letting them see a boob, right?

Agreed! Should have sent the kids running when he started singing the song. And please don't try to be naive...everyone and their grandma has heard that song.

And it's not the last lyric...it's repeated THROUGHOUT the song.

Which is another reason I'm ticked off. I wasn't in the living room at the time the song came on. By the time I was in there, it was too late.

Cripes! Bewbies on national TV!?! If this keeps up, how will I ever keep the sexual repression going on into the next generation? American culture is so uptight I'm surprised people can't stick a lump of coal up their ass and sh!t out diamonds.

The Super Bowl and all the ad time aired is aimmed primarily at men. While this stunt was rather lame imho why anybody would be shocked at a breat being shown during an event aimmed to appeal to men surprises me.

You can't be serious? The NFL needs MTV. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Last time I checked the superbowl has been one of the most most watched events in American television before MTV was even a blip on the TV guide. If the NFL needs MTV so bad, then why was it that when halftime came on in the bar I was in last night the pool tables, dart boards, video games, and foosball tables all filled up within minutes of the last play of the first half?

Very, very few eyes were on the TV during that time.

I had been. And, it's not my fault for CBS broadcasting adult-level "entertainment" while I'm off in the bathroom evacuating my bowels.

Get a freakin' clue.

YOU PEOPLE ARE DENSE. It's not about "OMG A BOOBIE". That's not the point! So stop bringing up European culture or lack of it, it doesn't matter. What matters is that they took away your choice to view what you wanted to and not to view what you didn't want to. THAT'S IT.

Here's the bottom line,

If you want to see nude people, or boobs, go turn on your porn channel or dig through your magazines. Don't force the rest of the world to share your perverted views. Quit forcing you views on others. There are places and times for nudity, but the halftime of the superbowl is NOT ONE OF THEM.

How would you people feel if someone came up on stage and started talking about how everyone should worship God? All of you people saying to get over this boob thing would be here complaining your tiny little heads off about how inappropriate it is to talk about God during the superbowl halftime. Or if Michael Moore came up on stage and started talking about how guns should be outlawed. You people would all have objections. THIS IS THE SAME THING.

Now, to all of you hypocrites out there, SHUT UP.

No, I'm not happy and I don't think CBS is happy that Janet Jackson set presendence. Besides, your argument is illogical on the grounds that just because something happened at a game doesn't mean it's accepted as the normal. The major television networks would never show another football game again if what Janet Jackson did became common place.

That's the same point I made about 15 posts down. It doesn't matter though. The geeks here tend to disect things on a micro level instead of looking at things from a generalization.

Good grief.

Use that grey matter in your skull for once.

How in the world would it have been possible to change the channel before it happened? Are we all psychic now?

The act happened rather quickly. Not everyone keeps their remote in their hand. Not everyone can jump in front of the screen blocking the view from their kids in a nanosecond.
