Apocalypto

Great flick. The first 10 minutes of the film are classic storytelling, incredible. The rest of the film is unable to maintain that intensity continually but there are a lot of moments like that throughout the film.

True action flick with some gruesome scenes. None of the scenes are as gratuitously shocking as those from the slasher genre; Gibson used the shocking nature of the actions to convey the horror of the moment and he does a great job. It's a great example of using visually horrifying actions to communicate a variety of emotions to the viewer - not to simply shock the viewer.

Gibson has a lot of personal issue but he's one h*ll of a storyteller, director and producer. I wouldn't put him in Scorcese's or Speilberg's class yet but, damn, his first two flicks are absolutely awesome. Compare them to the first two (or even three or four) efforts by Scorcese and Speilberg and ya gotta stop and wonder. And he's doing this with his own dough - whoa.

I saw it - I thought it was really, really awesome.

First half explores what life was like for "rural" and city-dwelling Mayans, and then the 2nd half is when all the action is/was. So many good themes in the movie. Thinking back on it, one of the cool things about it is that the love-story part of it really delivers. It's not like just some obligatory love crap - I genuinely choked up in a couple places.

Well worth admission.

Hmm... 65% fresh on rotten tomatoes and doing well at the box office (by all reports). I thought Mel's career was supposed to be over?

If he were in Spielberg's class, he'd be replacing the weapons with walkie-talkies...

thats the senile old spielberg. the younger one that was not insane was great.

I saw the trailer in theaters a while back and thought it looked ridiculous. The trailer didn't tell me anything about what it was about except for quick flashes of people running all over the place.

I noticed all the critics I saw give this movie a bad review, were all about insulting Mel Gibson. It lets you see who the professionals are, and who are the bitter hatemongering political hacks posing as movie critics.

I thought it was completely kick ass. Sweet gore and fighting scenes everywhere! It's man-tastic!

I haven't seen anything in this movie or his other movie that even tempts me to see them.

Actually, there are few Mel Gibson movies I actually like.

It does looks good in the ads. Unfortunately it has the stamp of Mel on it and he is a completely bat-sh!t crazy nazi. I can't let him have any of my money. I'll have to boycott this one.

I think Gibson is talented. Heck, some heads of the Jewish community forgave him when he made his apology statement. Why can't some of you?

Buy a ticket for something else and go see the movie instead

Because I don't make decisions based on political motivations, like some heads of the Jewish community do.
