ATOT: where NOT to get your movie reviews.

Still a lot better than the nightmare that is the IMDb message boards. Spoilers in the thread titles and every movie has a rabid group of fanatics that insist it is the best/worst movie EVAR! It's rare to see any sort of meaningful discussion on there. For example, "OMG! I'm a non-Christian and the title 10,000 B.C. is offensive to those who don't believe in Christ. We need a neutral religion-free calendar."

I generally go for James Berardinelli's site. Fairly balanced reviewer, reviews movies for what they are (serious drama or cheap thrills) and I generally agree with most of his reviews. Not just the positive/negative verdict but even the ratings.

That has GOT to be a joke. I don't think someone can say that without laughing.

haha, true.

I always ask the question "So is this at least worth a rental on a boring night?" and the response I get to a "yes/no" question is a subjective opinion that doesn't give an answer to my question.

I've been meaning to watch this movie and in fact almost bought the BD of it the other day. Maybe I'll just rent it instead.

I got the Blu-Ray. Buy it, it's a very nice add to a collection.

Clearly someone was serious, otherwise they wouldn't have come up with this "Common Era" crap which scales from the same event anyway.

No it isn't...that's exactly how things were built in those areas. The jungle directly borders the temple zone, and you'd be surprised how far two days of forced marching can get you.

Yeah I've heard it looks amazing on BD. If I can find it under $25 I'll probably just grab it.

Except for a few long distance scenes, it seemed like an old time jungle movie that was all shot on a sound stage. Way too staged would describe it perfectly. A two day march from a deep jungle tribe to a noon sacrifice on a city temple was a little hard to swallow too.

Well, remember.......we're talking old time natives, that could probably cover 15-20 miles a day (or more). Not like these days, where most people would be lucky to do 4 miles in a day, before they'd collapse, quivering like a fat bowl of jello!

Good flick, interesting story. I thought the idea of using the ants to "stitch" a wound together was pretty cool! 🙂

i've seen this in a movie before. can't remember where tho. i seem to remember i saw it like 15 yrs ago or so.

This has been around for a long time - it isn't new. It really does work in a pinch.

 Seriously, even if you visit a tourist beacon like Chitzen-Iza you'll get an idea of how close to the jungle those cities can be.

I thought the movie was fantastic.

Wow! Just saw the movie last night...GREAT. I wasn't sure what to expect but it had a great plot, a nice story, and was acted well. Bloody as hell, but it reflects the savage nature of the time it was set in. I enjoyed it.

I AM JAGUAR PAW!!

That jaguar scene was one of the worst I've ever seen. The panda attack in tropic thunder was more realistic and it was intended to be a joke.
