<< 199 for XP if you get it retail. I know for a fact it can easily be had for 99 dollars and legally at that. As for rather or not MS prices have always been inflated, that's not for me to decide, and I can't change the past. And I still don't get it. Has Netscape ever been free to DL? I would swear that I have DLed it myself for free. >>

Back in the day, Netscape was available for download, but you were supposed to pay for it. Many people did not, but many people did, and that was how Netscape made their money. When IE came out and was free, they had to make netscape free to compete, but like I said, they lost their revenue because of that.

no0b, I am sorry for the pun, I have bean a very bad boy, I won't do it again. ;)

You can't change the past, but you can sue because of it. :)

I think I'm gonna sue microsoft too. They got lousy drivers bundled in their software and not good ones preventing mfr's from having fully functioning products, not to mention the plethora of 3com drivers etc. that are supplied and I don't need. And their paint proggy sucks forcing me to buy a good one. Why not just bundle paint shop pro? Wait, I can't afford a lawyer. Ah, I see now! AOL is not suing cause msoft made their software better than the competition, they're suing cause they can afford the lawyers! So maybe their goal is to get communication software outta the os so mfrs. can install aol's instead and force folks to use aol. Or whatever. I'm sure AOL doesn't care what I think though just like they didn't when I was a customer. How many folks still use aol cause they can't get it uninstalled well enough to use another service. Maybe somebody should sue them. I mean really, a class action lawsuit actually has merit in this case and would win. Most folks end up reinstalling the os after an aol uninstall. Sign me up! I wanna sue AOL!

This has nothing to do with who has the better product. It's about someone finally stepping up and laying the smackdown to MS for all the crap they've done to get themselves into their place of dominance.

The government chickened out in the anti-trust case, but at least laid the foundation for AOL... they showed that MS used illegal practices to maintain a monopoly. AOL is not stupid. They must pay MS boatloads of money just like every other corporation out there whenever MS forces them to upgrade... err, comes out with new software.

Nobody else has the cash or motivation to go after MS. IMHO, it's about time.

To me, AOL looks like they're getting ready to start selling AOL only computers. They'll run custom redhat/netscape and sell them dirt cheap. They can give the computers away to AOL customers for 2-3 year service committments (just like MSN).
