The Bernie Sanders surrogate said the most important thing is that the Democratic Party ultimately unites against Donald Trump:

“Everyone’s worried if one wins, will the supporters of the other sort of agree to support the Democratic nominee,” the Late Night host said. “Is it safe to assume that you will support Joe Biden if he is the nominee?”

Ocasio-Cortez, who has been one of Bernie Sanders’ most vital surrogates on the campaign trail, did not hedge or hesitate in her answer.

“Yeah, you know, I’ve said throughout this entire process that what is so important is that we ultimately unite behind who that Democratic nominee is,” she said. “And I think it’s a two-way street. I’ve been concerned by some folks that say if Bernie’s the nominee, they won’t support him—and the other way around.”

^^^ There are some posters on this forum I desperately hope will step up and do what I see is the right thing.

Gonna borrow what someone shared on Facebook and holds up for the most part. Now, I know Biden isn't guaranteed to fulfill all of this, but some of these are virtually guaranteed on day one if he takes the presidency.

1. You're not just voting for President.
2. You're voting for who replaces RBG on the Supreme Court.
3. You're voting for the next Secretary of Education.
4. You're voting for federal judges.
5. You're voting for the rule of law.
6. You're voting for saving national parks.
7. You're voting for letting kids out of cages.
8. You're voting for clean air and clean water.
9. You're voting for scientists to be allowed to speak about climate change.
10. You're voting for what a President says and does on Twitter.
11. You're voting for housing rights.
12. You're voting for LGBTQ people to be treated with dignity.
13. You're voting for non-Christians to be able to adopt and to feel like full citizens.
14. You're voting for Dreamers.
15. You're voting so that there will be Social Security and Medicare when you retire.
16. You're voting for veterans to get the care they deserve.
17. You're voting for rural hospitals.
18. You're voting so that someone else can have health insurance.
19. You're voting for the preservation of PBS.
20. You're voting to have a President who doesn't embarrass this country every time she or he attends an international meeting.
21. And you're voting against allowing the USA to become yet another authoritarian regime.
22. You're voting for sensible gun laws.

Good. Even though id much rather have Bernie over Biden, ill vote for whoever the nominee is to try and defeat Trump. Not that it will matter much in KS due to the EC. But meh lol

Yes, I'm still hoping we get the good option and not the lame, uninspiring one, but there's really no choice in the general. Vote to stab myself in the face, or not.
I likes my face unstabbed, I'll tell you what!

LOL - This coming from the dumbass that isn't paying her DNC dues because some of the electorate aren't progressive enough for her tastes? https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ds-her-decision-not-pay-dccc-dues/4435201002/

Way to call the kettle black there....

I wouldn’t count on Bernie Bros/Broads etc. to support Biden, because apparently even Bernie couldn’t count in their support on Super Tuesday.
Hopefully we can at least get through to them enough to vote Bernie anyway as a write-in, or other third party, as a more effective way of sending a message than stabbing themselves in the face... I threw away my vote in '16 by writing in Bernie (he wasn't registered here), but I also live in rural Nebraska so my vote means fuck-all anyway.

your link related to the topic at hand how?

If you're looking to unite (especially under a party that was essentially the hand that fed you) then the last thing you should be doing is challenging your dues that are there to help other democrats (that may be in locations that aren't so progressive).

So much for uniting as a party and not sowing division.

^^^ There are some posters on this forum I desperately hope will step up and do what I see is the right thing.

I understand who this is directed at, and I understand where this is coming from. Tuesday was not an easy day for me, I probably posted things here that I regret (don't feel like going back to look at them now), but seeing Sanders go from a near prohibitive favorite for the nomination to a long shot in one night was not easy. It felt very similar to the night that Trump got elected, a sense of alienation from voters whose votes you could not understand.

First I should say is that I live in New Jersey. My vote will not contribute either way, that's the reality of our political system. But I think what you really mean is that you hope people like me will ultimately line up behind a politician that we might not like vote against an abominable president. The left is kind of a crazy place, we're at each other's throats all the time, I think it's a symptom of the desperate nature of the lives a lot of these people live. (I'm not in that category, I'm lucky enough to have a good job and a good income, but I identify far more with those that don't.) It's hard to get a handle on what people's intentions are in a broad sense.

To answer the question I think your asking, will Sanders supporters follow AOC's lead and vote for Biden in the GE, I'll say I think it's possible. I mentioned in another thread that I think nominating someone like Nina Turner for VP would be an amazing olive branch. Sanders is too old to carry on the fight, making Turner a VP and boosting her profile for a 2024 or 2028 run would give us real hope for the future and a sense that Biden might actually follow through on some of his progressive platform. (Which, frankly, I should mention, Sanders supporters do not believe Biden has any intention of following through on). It would essentially position Turner to carry on the fight that Sanders started. Alas, I don't think there's much of a chance he'll do that. I'd say if there's one thing that the "old" guard ;) can do to help convince Sanders supports to come out in November, it would be to pressure the Vice President to reach out to the progressive wing in a meaningful way. If, on the other hand, he continues to turn his back on the left, my guess is that he'll get some support from Sanders voters that believe in "voting strategically" for the courts and because it's certain that Biden will be better, or at least less harmful, in many ways than Trump.

As for me personally, I have to be honest and say that I don't know right now. I don't mean to be patronizing, but if I do it will almost certainly be for you and for people like my folks who would be heartbroken if I didn't 'do my part' to get Trump out of the White House. You're a very good dude, and I meant it when I said I vastly prefer Biden supporters to Warren supporters.

Dying of Corona Virus after eating a contaminated Big Mac would be such a fantastic end to his presidency.

Absolutely everyone (who isn't on the right themselves) should vote to get Trump out.
However, I'd find it hard to feel any wild enthusiasm for Biden.

Of course he won't touch it - he knows where it's been! (As does Putin...probably)

The interesting question for me is who will Biden pick (or be told to pick) for a running mate. But that's a topic for another thread.

This is the $500 million question. I’ve seen speculation of everyone from Kamala Harris and Warren to Deval Patrick or Mike Bloomberg (God fuck no).

The litmus test on every Democrat’s mind is whether his VP pick can carry the ticket in 2024—let’s all be honest and call Biden a one-term President.

On Tuesday, I thought Warren would be the perfect pick. However, Senate calculus may require her to keep her seat and she will be 76 before she could be sworn-in in 2025.

Edit: Keep an eye on Deval Patrick. There has been speculation that his late Presidential bid was really a run for VP, and remember this tidbit back from 2015 when Biden was last considering a run: http://edwardklein.com/obama-ready-to-endorse-biden-with-conditions/

Enthusiasm, maybe not, but hope, possibly. As I like to put it: whoever wins the Dem primaries, you're backing the Reasonable Person With Relevant Experience 2020 campaign.

Biden is Hillary 2016 Part II.

The only difference is that Biden won't sling the actual dirt he has on Trump. Hillary called it out during the '16 elections; Trump is a Russian asset.

In all honestly, I'm expecting it to be someone as similarly "electrifying" as Kaine :(
