sold an all-in-one printer/scanner on ebay once

the guy lived 2 hours away but wanted to drive to me to save shipping cost.
He arrived and paid in cash, I even knocked a bit off price as it saved me the hassle of packing it up.

if someone asked me to do that, i'd still charge them for S&H. shoot, i definitely wouldn't give them the address to my home, i'd want to meet them in a public place and all that would take my time, hence i'd still charge them.

what's the point of that? if you ship it, it will save the buyers time and he will have it in a day or two anyways. if you arrange a pickup, you also have to realize that it saves you time by not having to ship the item and track the package, you ever think about that?

all i have to do to ship a package USPS is to print a prepaid label from my printer and when the mailman comes by the next day, he picks it up.

if i have to arrange a pickup i have to deliver it to be picked up. you show me where i'd spend more time shipping it??

as i said, that would be my policy, if the buyer doesn't like it he can pay to have it shipped. AS AGREED UPON when he made the bid.

well if he came to you, you'd be saving teh time it takes to wrap it all up and a trip to the Post Office......or do you include all this in your shipping charge?

FYI: Auction winners can view the sellers address and phone number on ebay.

but my HOME address isn't on there. I provide my BUSINESS address.

Would most likely be A-OK, but if they pay by paypal make sure their address matches their ID, should be local to you.

are my S&H quotes higher than what i actually pay the USPS to deliver it. OF COURSE.

again, it's all in black and white on any ebay item i put up for bid.

Oh you are one of them.......

I find sellers who crank up S&H charges a complete turn off.
I will ignore an auction that has ridiculous shipping fees and buy from another seller....but that's just me.

Hey whatever works for you, there are a lot of dumb buyers out there.

Two things... First, I would have him/her sign off on the item when they picked it up. Second, I would meet them in a public place. This protects both of you in that neither of you knows where the other lives (ie seen the house/apartment) and neither of you are put into jeopardy by entering the home of someone you don't know.

Otherwise, I would say go for it. I've met a couple of people in person for deals on AT, but never e-bay.

I've not done that with E-Bay, but I have when selling 914 parts. It was more convenient for both of us and it made payment simpler.

hmmmm. so most people on ebay only sell in order to benefit the buyer and have NO intention of making any money. Ya, i really believe that.

No problems in doing this. I've picked up purchases that I've bought off of Ebay. Actually, I think the seller was quite happy to receive the cash.

Why would there be a problem with it?

You probably have less of a chance of getting ripped off in person than with anomity.

I went and picked up a 69lb speaker from a guy on ebay. Would of cost $40-50 easily to ship it. Picked it up at his house and paid with cash and it was a great transaction.

Maybe meet them at a local store, gas station, etc. Just for safety and all, plus then neither of you is getting all that personal.

I sold some tickets a few times (sports, concerts, etc.) and just met the people somewhere local to me and/or them. Like one time I was dirivng to LA from OC (California) and just dropped em off at the guys house.

Good luck.

only if u want get A$$ raped.

JK, meet him in a public place, and you'll probably do fine.

unless u charge extra shipping like i do to counter the ebay fees, then deny the request and make a buck or two in shipping.

It's definately not a big deal. Hasn't anybody bought or sold anything through a classified ad? It's not any different. I've had high bidders drive hundreds of miles to my house to pick something up. They've all been friendly people. Too many people automatically associate the internet with 'wierdos.'
