Anything wrong with letting an eBay buyer pick up their item in person?

I'm the seller and got an email from someone who lives not too far away and wants to pick the item up in person to avoid having to pay shipping. Just wanted to get some opinions before I tell him it's okay.

I did it once, no problem. He paid with PP and came to get it.

If possible, I wouldn't do it at my home.

Nothing wrong with it, but the only thing that *could* come up is they can claim you never sent them anything (which would be true). You'd have no real recourse if that happens.

But if you're not a pessimist, nothing wrong with them picking it up in person. :)

Remember: just in case, get him to sign a bill of sale. You want proof that he actually recieved the item after paying for it.

i really don't see the harm in letting someone pick an item up. i won an ebay auction for $35 and the seller wanted $50 picked up or shipped, so i had it shipped. what the fvck is the point of that?

Just make sure your item is as described. Maybe he wants to come and check it out before laying down the dough, or possibly beat you with a crowbar.

Cuz he'll probably try to beat your ass if you're alone. . .

If you're a wuss and he's a criminal.

Just write up 2 copies of a bill of sale, stating an exchange of [goods] for [cash/paypal/gold brick/whatever payment] has occured, and both of you sign both of them. It works for used cars, it will work other used stuff.

Yeah, I see no prob with that. I won a huge HP laser printer (laserjet3 I think) and it was only 10 miles away and saved ALOT in shipping.

Hell, I personally delivered an item to a buyer once. He was a nice guy just eagerly waiting for my Dreamcast broadband adapter :D :D :D

Heck, no. I've done it before. Be sure to meet in a very public place, and you'll be fine. Oh, and bring a lookout. ;)

It's fine. Like stated, meet in a public place, and exchange cash. Or have him sign a document stating he did in fact pick up the item and such, especially for someone with every low feedback

if someone asked me to do that, i'd still charge them for S&H. shoot, i definitely wouldn't give them the address to my home, i'd want to meet them in a public place and all that would take my time, hence i'd still charge them.

what's the point of that? if you ship it, it will save the buyers time and he will have it in a day or two anyways. if you arrange a pickup, you also have to realize that it saves you time by not having to ship the item and track the package, you ever think about that?

I've picked up a monitor off of ebay because it was a shop selling surplus stuff. It was easier on both ends because he had the money, and I had the monitor. It saved them time because the thing didn't need packaging and there was effectively no risk involved in the transaction. The biggest risk was me not showing up.

FYI: Auction winners can view the sellers address and phone number on ebay.
