Anything to do about a sexually oriented offender that moved in a block away?

Just got an email notification from our sheriff's department that a sexually oriented offender has moved in about a block away from my house. His charge was Pandering Sexually Oriented Matter involving minor, a fourth degree felony.

Anything I can do?

Tell your kids (if applicable) not to talk to the guy down the block because he's a known sex offender? Assuming they're old enough to understand what that is. If not, just tell them not to do it because he's a bad guy and because you said so.

If you're really so concerned, buy a gun? You're in Ohio you can do it.

Seriously this isn't rocket science.

Some kid asked him to buy a Playboy and he did it?
Yeah, that sounds like a real threat to society.

Or the other way around.

But yea, super threatening.

Unless of course the offender was selling a home made "playboy" consisting of minors, and then tried to sell it off to another minor. In that case, dude has issues.

Yeah, he doesn't sound very threatening. I wouldn't worry about it. For all you know, the guy was 18 and sharing his Playboy with his 17 year old friend.

Its not like he actually went out and harmed somebody.

I do have 5 year old daughter. Call it a non-issue all you want, its still not a great thing to have a felon move to your neighborhood... let alone a sexually oriented one.

If it makes you feel any better, its likely that at least one of your existing neighbors has probably done worse things.

what can you do? nothing if he is within the law.

what you should do is tell your kids to stay the fuck away from him and if he talks to them run screaming or just flat out kick him in the balls.

That says 2nd or 3rd degree, not 4th degree.

According to that page, fourth degree is

Knowingly solicit, receive, purchase, exchange, possess, or control any material that shows a minor participating or engaging in sexual activity, masturbation, or bestiality;

Basically possession of child pornography.

Ah well that's different... keep your kids away from that area.

And yeah need to read topics more carefully sometimes.
