is anyone going to point out that all 'offenders' are probably 'sexually-oriented' one way or the other?

is this really a gay-bashing thread?

OP, check your local laws on sex offenders and how close they can live to schools, parks, etc. I don't know if his offense is serious enough for him to qualify, but I'd be checking to see if he's in a restricted area.

I would think if the police are emailing him about the guy moving in they would know if it was restricted area or not?

Once again... They have your email? Everything I have read they do this thru door to door or mass mailing notifications. The only way they have emails is thru property records and even then not every one has an email. Factor in renters and people that moved and email becomes very unreliable. Does anyone else know of/have a program where law enforcement has emails to notify residents about problems in their neighborhood?

Yes... my local sheriff has my email address. The department offers a service were you put in your address and you get an email notification anytime a registered sex offender moves within a certain radius of your address.

Had one move in right behind us... Shared a fence post. Neighbors were up in arms over it.

Neighbor had a 12 year old boy and he was all crazy about the new neighbor... When the guy had lived in the neighborhood before and the infraction had been with his 16 year old step daughter. I told my neighbor that it was obvious that he liked teenage girls. DUH.

Given the infraction with his step daughter it was safe to assume he was fairly safe and had just made a bad mistake (or maybe didn't) and a ex wife and maybe a shit head step daughter rail roaded him. Maybe the close proximity to his step daughter was what it took...

Either way... I knew exactly where the guy lived, and that was enough by me. I often wonder if before people went stupid over an offender moving into the neighborhood that a chosen representative speak to the offender. A "welcome to the neighorhood" sort of talk and simply try to understand what it was they did before coming to your own conclusions... I think if people took this approach, people would be more informed and less hostile.

I'm sure not all offenders would want to share too much, but if a neighbor said "Hey, we just don't want to jump to conclusions about what you may have done and we realize that mistakes may have been made and that given the nature of your specific infraction you probably are not worth our worry... But if you are, be aware we know you are here.

Yeah I got a 5 ppd average and I only spend about half an hour posting. Much of my time is reading in the tech forums, and thats been slowing down a lot over the past 3 years.

You should probably call him out, and confront him. Then when he punches you in the face because you jumped to conclusions about something you didnt know about because he is registered for having sex with a 16 year old at 18 or buying a porno mag for a minor.

Seriously, tell your kids to avoid him. Or invite him over for a telletubbies marathon and see how it plays out.

His charge was Pandering Sexually Oriented Matter involving minor, a fourth degree felony.

Your kidding,, right?

The ones you need to worry about the ones convicted of "aggravated sexual assault of a child".

The "real" predators, are the ones who rape infant children. When you get into teenagers, the victim can speak up. A 1 - 2 year old can not say too much.

I have a convicted sex offender living directly across the street. His "victim" was a 15 year old, he was something like 32 at the time. Am I worried, no I am not.

Anything I can do?

Find something else to worry about, work overtime, get a hobby,,,, lots of things you can do.

Not sure exactly what there is or could be "done" about it. Know what house it is, and go talk to the guy. Figure out what the hell the deal is and within a few minutes you know whether or not to let your kids walk that way down the street. It could be anything from full-blown pedo, on down to having a picture a "purported" 16 yr old with a crush sent him from their cell phone. Back in the late 90's a guy I worked with for a while ran a BBS and someone uploaded 4 jpgs to his upload folder. He was on vacation and by thte time he got back the feds had searched and seized his whole operation. He wasn't into that kind of thing - (so he says) but it was on his computer from some person. They had served the guy uploading the stuff to him as well and he ended up going down for serious charges. My friend did 90 days and 5 yrs probation for basically having an open upload policy on his BBS and allowing it to remain. (mind you this was 1995ish so PC's weren't quite as prevalent.)
