Luckily the job is not in CA 😉. I see what you are saying, personally I wouldn't move in that area unless the cost of living was adjusted properly for the salary.

Huh? You're not going Mountain View?
No, another location.
Oh, where? (Unless this is somehow a secret) We all thought it was CA.
I know they have a small office in Atlanta, GA. I assume they probably have similar set ups in other cities that are large enough.
It could be the new sexy ass office they just set up in LA, looks super modern and high tech.

I doubt he's coming to the NYC office.
They have loads of offices, it's in Michigan...I already posted that it was in Michigan, haha.
That looks like a cool architect office building or something..all open and lofty.
$1100 for flying across 1 state wtf? Must be Ann Arbor.
Yup, that is their only office in Michigan as far as I know. My guess is it was such short notice, so the airlines jacked up the price..but man, gouged!
technically the flight is 2 hours @ 550~~ MPH, so the distance is actually kind of far, surprisingly.
Drive would have been 10~ hours.
Hey if they pay well, you could be living like a king next to Detroit.
Generally, I agree...but from all of the glassdoor articles I read, suit IS too much.
SUIT UP!!!
Good luck Vivi. Try not to go cross-eyed when they throw the brain teasers at you.
walk into the place wearing sweat pants and a tank top like a real G
(I once went to see a high-hourly-wage-lawyer and I swear that's what he greeted me wearing)
good luck dude. I had an interview with MS before i graduated college and they flew me out to redmond and paid for everything, including a day there just to sightsee. I made it through all the interviews but messed up my last one. great experience though. they do ask some whack questions, as well as hardcore ones.
Hope they accept you for a job offer!
Yeah it seems like a lot for the plane ticket, hotel, and whatnot, but that's just what it takes for companies to recruit talent and lots are perfectly willing to spend it. Of course, cost aside, that they are bringing you out is definitely one step closer.
Ann Arbor is pretty cool. I have some friends there. I live about 30 min north in hard as fuck Northville.
Good luck
...if your company has money to begin with, yeah. 😉 And it assumes that the management is willing to think long-term.The cost really isn't much to the employer. Hiring a bad software engineer ends up costing the company about $500k in the end (I've heard numbers like this from two different managers at two different software companies). So its really not much to spend $1-2k to fly somebody out. Heck, its not even much to spend $20-30k on a summer intern.
Hey, I am in Michigan. And Ann Arbor is very nice...IMO, the best place to live in MI. Good Luck OP.
