anyone watch the GOP debate tonight?

I missed the first half because I was at work, but from watching the second half...

I thought Romney came across pretty well. I don't really agree with any of his politics, but I don't think he'd be destructive in the White House if he did win the nomination (unlike, say, Bachmann or Ron Paul)

I was a little disgusted, though, that the line about Rick Perry executing 200-some people drew more applause than Jon Huntsman talking about nation building at home instead of in Iraq.

I wondered if and when the first "tonights debate" thread would show up.
Took a while. Quite a while. That alone says a lot.

Does anyone know if/when/where this will be released to download? I would love to listen to it at work tomorrow on my ipod.

I saw bits and pieces. I have watched every debate since the 2000 primaries. I was heavily conservative leaning back then. Tonight, even with the limited parts I did see, I came away horrified at what the GOP has become since then. I don't think that I can take them seriously as a positive force in this country anymore. I have plenty of beef with the Democrats, but we are all screwed if this is the best their opponents can offer. I want to be able to vote for a moderate conservative...even a Republican, but I....just can't do this anymore. Maybe I'll watch the whole thing Friday evening, well after I've gotten off work and maybe had a few drinks. I have a feeling that I might be throwing things at my screen.

Perry hurt himself big time for the general, should he get the GOP nod, Calling SS a ponzi scheme will not win elderly voters and we know how important FL is. But, I'm sure he was a huge hit with his supporters. No real answers, just talking points and deflection.

Romney looked like the grownup in the room (said he wasn't a TP boy & defending SS), so he's as good as beaten. Bachmann lost all steam and looked wimpy this time around. Cain's(SP?) still counting...Huntsman looked like he took Bachmann's spot from her. Santorum appeared almost sane this time and Paul remained the same consistent message. Gingrich looked more like a cheerleader or VP candidate than a Pres candidate.

JMO.

funny thing is, as much as I disagree with every one of his policies, I totally agreed with Perry's assessment of social security.

as a guy in his late 20's, I'm paying into social security and fully expecting it to no longer exist by the time I'd actually be old enough to collect.

ditto - i am planning for a retirement where SS is nonexistant.

You'd be surprised. Educated america knows he's right, including elderly voters who have children and grandchildren who are victims.

I was sort of forced to pay attention (I work at a media company - don't ask). Huntsman seemed pretty solid - the best of the bunch.

I think this was a blow to Bachmann's chances, and I guess Santorum and Gingrich were already on the fringes anyways. (I don't know why Cain is there at all.)

Clapping for 200+ people being executed is pretty messed up. Lots of cynicism for government being able to do anything right, but we're all so sure that nobody bungled up the evidence or procedure in these criminal cases? Very interesting.

It's been used for a wedge issue for longer than you've probably been alive. And seniors are one of the largest voting blocks in the country. I don't think I'd be surprised.

When we get down to brass tacks, most seniors are not that concerned about future generations. Do they love their grandchildren? Sure. Do they want to give up anything like medicare spending for the sake of their grandchildren's long-term future? Nooooope.

I hate Perry but he is 100% right about SS. The Elderly and Baby Boomers are screwing our generation.

The cold hard details of SS is not what people listen to. What people listen to are terms like ponzi scheme when related to SS. No, that will not fly with senior voters.
Bachmann pretty much ended her 15 minutes of fame. And Newt as well.
Romney looked good on tv, but that’s great if he hopes to get his own fox news tv show.
Perry...? what can we say? He has a "terrible" history to defend. Texas has the most without healthcare, the poorest education history and the lowest wages. And the fact eBay moved to Texas to take advantage of cheap wages and no regulation doesn’t sit well. eBay? Really... Ouch!

And what the hell is Ron Paul doing there? What planet is he from? Did anyone understand one thing he said? It's obvious Paul has some wet dream presidential fantasy that motivates him election cycle after election cycle. Yeckie pooie...
If my dad was as delusional as Paul, I'd do daddy a favor and have him put in a home.

What I am looking for is someone who has some good ideas, and really believes what they are talking about. Ideas that most people will be able to get on board with, and are willing to compromise. Most of what I hear is the same old BS talking points and idiotic ideas, some were absolutely insane.

I only watched parts because that was all I could take of these same old talking points and stuff I heard many times before. What I did find is that the more they talk the more i know who I wouldn't vote for.

The party of Lincoln died with the inauguration of President Taft and has been sliding down that slippery right leaning slope to become the shit hole political party it is now. Fifth column your label is Republican.

I didn't bother. I rarely watch any of these debate things or presidential speeches or the peanut gallery afterwards that claim to know exactly what everybody meant by everything. I'll get the important info later and leave it at that.

Off topic - whampom do you seriously believe what you put in your sig? 90% tax on rich people made this country great? Seriously?

Telling the plain truth as it stares us all in the face, is apparently an immediate disqualifier for a Presidential candidate, if we're to bow to the talking heads.

Well f'em.

It IS a ponzi scheme, it WILL NOT exist for us without heavy modification. The folks fighting for the status quo are no less guilty than Bernard Madoff. Their assult on Perry's notion is an assault on us. They want theirs for short term gains at the expense of long term viability. They want to raid the treasury while it's still there.

Guess they never studied history and the consequences of bankrupt policies. France might have a thing or two to teach us on that.
