so after you buy it at midnight are you going to IMMEDIATELY start to read through it at the stroke of 12? if not whats the point of waiting in the midnight line, other than to succumb to one of the dumbest marketing tricks out there

MichealD, I'm with you on this one. The actual stories of the HP series might not even be that bad, but it's a childrens book. Sheesh. I can understand the 10 year olds being excited about this, but I just don't understand the idiot parents that go bonkers over this stuff, even more so than their kids.

I haven't read a Harry Potter book yet but I wouldn't make fun of people who do read them. For a children's book, have you seen how thick those books are? It's not like they are Dr Suess books.

I actually stopped by a book store today at lunch because my friend wanted to see when the new one would be on the shelves and I flipped through one of the HP books. The reading appears to be about as difficult as any John Grisham or Robin Cook book (probably my two favorite authors) but it's a storyline that anyone kids or adults can enjoy.

No, I already have a huge pile of books to finish reading first. By the time I get done with those I'll be able to get it for $5 on clearance.

That's what I always thought. A co worker finally convinced me to read the first book. I just ate it up. I then proceeded to read all the remaining ones. I not going to rush out and buy the new one but I will probably pick it up after finishing the current book I'm reading.

MichaelD: let's go get Triumph (the insult comic dog) and us three go down to a Barnes&Noble to make fun of the nuuuuuuuuuurddzzzzz.

And please tell me that no one from this board was this guy:
In their midst stood a man clad in a purple wizard's outfit, leading the cheers.

Harry Fxkking Potter....holy crap.

This coming from a 30ish-old man who lives in an apartment and gets his jollies by pissing off his neighbours and then bragging about it on here. Irony at its finest.

I have no plan reading any of the books, nor seeing any of the movies. Not my cup of tea.

I plan to be at the local Barnes & Noble at midnight. I didn't place a pre-order so I'm curious about my odds for getting a book. Don't laugh but some places stopped taking pre-orders because they fulfilled their allocation.

Borders is having a release party with customed characters and "lots of fun and games". I'm at least twice the target age for the HP series but I don't give a rat's ass. I've read the first four...what am I going to do? Stop now?

I went two years ago for the last one and had a blast. Lots of family's there, having fun with their kids. Trivia contests, and other games. It is nice wholesome fun. And, hell Iwant to start reading the book tonight at 12:01.

I just got back, but didn't buy one. I work at Media Play and we sold about 300 copies of it in 45 minutes. Talk about busy as hell.

I'll end up reading it.

I'm secure enough to be able to read a book with marketing aimed at both children and adults without doubting my validity or masculinity or something silly like that. Either way, it's time more constructvely spent than playing video games or watching another mindless formulaic movie.

Hello Kiddies,

Just got home from an interesting evening out. I had sex with a girl tonight. Yes, a REAL girl...someday, you too will experience the wonders of the female anatomy. Until then, you have Harry Potter, right? :p

Bet you thought I wasn't watching this thread, huh? Did Mommy drop you off at the Bookie Store? Did Momsie give you some money so you and your buddy Burt could get the book and "hang out?"

I'll bet you made poor Mom park the Family Van way the hell out in BFE so your cool friends (who were also dropped off by their Mommies...) wouldn't see your Mommy dropping you off. What a pathetic bunch of pimple-farming losers.

I may be "old and bitter" but at least I don't sponge off my parents like you little virginal dweebs. Suck it. Hard.

michaeld:

lighten the fvck up, dude. so what if some people like a book that's written for all ages enough that they'd wait in line at midnight on opening night to get the first copies? if it makes them happy, more power to them. why do you feel the need to ridicule them? chill out, and let them have their fun.

MichaelD, no need to be bitter about other people having fun.
I like girls, have a GF who is 23, I am older than you; and I love Potter.
