Anyone use voice recognition software?

I think it is included in Office XP... I just never used it.

A friend of mine has to use it now because he has tendonitis in his wrists. He is so sad and depressed, I truly feel sorry for the guy.

Wow, that's amazing! I didn't even know it was in the program. Can anyone recommend a good headset w/microphone to use with this feature?

I used to use a few years ago when training was still a pain and tedious. I'm sure it's gotten much much better, but I'm already a somewhat fast typer so I don't really need it.

I did buy a Parrot noise canceling headphone for it for about $70 - since I don't use voice recognition, so I don't need this. Anyone interested in it for around $40? If there's a demand, I'll put it up for sale in FS/FT.

i've used it off and on. it works well enough.

what's really annoying about it however is that it has to be out loud. annoying at best in family type situations where there is a lot of background noise.

it's really almost the same. they all use the same engine.

thats carpal tunnel right? scary stuff not being able to type. don't they have surgury for it?

i remember all the software used to use a lotta system resources, but with our pc's so much more powerful now, voice recognition could be great. should be little burdern to modern day pc's.. or the extra power could make it more accurate.

but the market kinda sucked and i think one of the leaders.. dragon? went out of business, dunno about the others.

Tested out OfficeXp's today but I guess i need to train it a bit. It seems to work ok. We are trying some other software out at work to see if we can get the doctors to transcribe to the computers instead of having them be recorded and transcriptionists type out the documents......the transcriptionists are rather afraid of loosing their work after seeing the demonstration today of the new software. Im not sure what engine it was using either. It worked VERY well.

Also has anyone heard about IBM ViaVoice???....maybe that is what they demo'd this morning. I will check and get back about it.

We use Dragon 6 in our labs (disability support) and it works the best, via voice is pretty basic and so it the one included with office.

Dragon allows you to browse the web, open programs, dictate documents pretty much everything with your voice.
