Is there a chance that could damage the batteries? Every other type of battery is permanently damaged if you try to charge them too fast.

No. Any device that wasn't designed by a retarded monkey will have a proper current-limiting trickle charger circuit built-in.

Dont really see the point. You still need the cord, and AC/USB adapters are cheaper, portable, and more useful.

you guy's should think about guests that probably had their lappy and phone and left all the wall warts at home.

Many of my friends entertain alot. Fortunately having spare apple cables is becoming more popular as well. Sometimes you don't have one available. Most of my friends went through enough phones to have tons of cables in a box somewhere. Great for chicks that don't usually use their pockets.

never going to happen. I can guarantee tablets or a small pocketable device will be the end game, but nothing is going to replace big screens until we can tap it into our brain.

That's what the industry seems to be trying to push latetly. I really hope that wont fly. D: Lot of stuff I do on a desktop that I could not easily do on a tablet, phone, or even netbook/ultrabook.

I did notice the price of motherboards and cpus has gone WAY up in the past few years, I wonder if it has to do with this.

Looking at it the other way around, I WISH more hotels would start installing these. I've been to a couple that have powered USB ports somewhere in the room, but right by the night stand in every Starwood and Hilton hotel would be ideal. I have to bring my wall warts because I won't know what's in the room until I get there. It'd be nice to not have to.

As I said in my previous response, these are on my to-do list for each outlet in my house by a nightstand, plus the kitchen island.

The hotel room should also have 240-120 or 120-240 converters built into the wall just in case people were too lazy to bring that with them. They should also include 12V DC in case I feel like charging my car battery and I didn't bring my battery charger.

I'm not talking Motel 6 here. It'd be a nice amenity at hotels that differentiate themselves on service and amenities in the first place. Not to mention, the two hotel chains I mentioned are also chains that tend to attract business travelers.

When I was in Italy last summer, the hotels we stayed at did have a couple of 120V outlets in the room, btw.

If people can't be bothered to bring their AC charger then what makes you think they will remember to bring a USB cable?

Things do get lost or forgotten. Last summer I went to a wedding and in a rush, I grabbed my bag with an open zipper, and my AC adapter fell out. When I got up to the room, I had a cable but no charger. Would have been nice to be able to charge my phone that day. Like anything else, it's a matter of convenience.

At home it's just about a cleaner look. I never move my two wallwarts from behind my night stand - there is always an iPad cable and MicroUSB plugged in. Might as well have it flush with the outlet.

Between charging pads and plugging devices into my computers, I am not sure of the reason to install these throughout the home for me personally.

Even internet over power is something I wouldn't do either. I'd sooner just drop down dedicated jacks from the attic going straight to my router.

Unless they come with adjustable voltage, those are fucking stupid.
Not every device charges the same way.

Wow, that a rip. $28 for an outlet is highway robbery. It's got an extra $2 worth of parts.

An outlet with a bunch (more than two) USB ports plus a couple regular power outlets I could see the advantage of if mounted over a counter or some place where I could stack a bunch of electronics.

It's a good idea, but as others have said, they are way overpriced.

They'll get cheaper in time. If I were building a new house, I'd consider installing a handful here or there.

I look forward to the day when routers, modems, etc come with USB power cables so we don't have to deal with DC adapters. Outlets with built-in USB ports are a step in the right direction.

I have something similar to that Targus adapter, but it has 6 outlets and 2 USB ports. $20 at Amazon.com.

Saw a surge protector for $15-ish last week that had 2 plug-in USB ports. Sounds easier to install than changing your actual outlet out.

This is another consideration I was wondering about.

I was thinking, "This thing would literally be draining money from my wallet even if it wasn't being used..."

Do you even know what "literally" means or how to use it properly?
