I am anxious to see this chipset on ECS/Pc-Chips mobos.

It will be a great solution for us integrators.

ecs already makes one. ecs rs480-m . newegg sells it for like $82 or so, its barely cheaper than the msi one though, and unlike the jetway pro model doesnt have any video ram (the jetway non pro and msi one dont have ram onboard either)

The MSI would probably be best for integrators as it has no OC options and plenty of features including firewire.

The -pro version just came back in to stock at newegg, and the regular version is sold out now. As a previous poster mentioned, the only apparent difference is the presence of 32Meg of onboard memory in the pro version.

I'm going to try it, but not for the overclocking... for the HD audio and $ saved with integrated video for now. I'm planning on trying it with the Venice core processor and 1Gig of ram. That should be faster than my aging athlon xp 1800 with 512M of ram and windows 98...

thats mainly the reason i got it the HD audio and not needing a video card. i dont like to have too much money just sucked into my pc depretiating. i just like to see what my cpus and equipment can do but i rarely keep stuff o/cd

An overclockable mATX board sounds interesting. Jetway, huh? Newegg says, "This item is warranted through the product manufacturer only." Jetway says, "Our warranty services cover all products purchased directly from JetWay Computer. If products are not purchased directly from Jetway Computer, please contact your vendor." Typical pass-the-buck. Jetway Tech Support

Hacp, thanks for that link. Gonna have to read up on it. I've been registered at Hardforums for a while, but ya know, so many forums, so little time...

jetway will warranty it if it is not bought from them. mine did not come with a floppy cable, so i emailed them and they sent me one overnight . must have been some mixup since mine came wtih 2 IDE cables.

they overnighted me another ide cable and 1 floppy cable. very friendly support thus far.

Good to know they seem to have customer service that cares. Hmm, maybe they really ARE trying to make themselves into the next DFI or [insert enthusiast mobo maker here]. - One can only hope. :)

Ah, I see. Thanks for your reply. :) By the way, did you use the shuttle raid drivers that you mentioned? If so, I'm assuming those worked alright for you? Thanks again.

yeah they worked fine.

Hans,

Did you extract the drivers from the shuttle executable? I downloaded them from shuttle and from Uli/Ali but both are executables that just want to run. I just wanted to extract them and slipstream them into windows. Also, have you tried XP 64bit edition with these, I was planning on slipstreaming the drivers into 64bit edition, which is why I wanted to use the ones off the Uli site since they are supposedly compatible with 64bit.

Thanks

I would think that the ULi ones would work fine since they're the drivers for the SB.

Thanks guys, I extracted the Uli drivers and it has all the drivers for the southbridge for win98 through 64 bit, just incase some else needs them.

I got my A210GDMS-Pro system up and running tonight.

Athlon 64 3000+ Venice core
1GB Corsair twin value select (2 x 512)
Regular parallel IDE hard drives, no raid yet
On board video (w/32Mb built in video, not a gamer)

Most everything went smoothly except ...
- My USB ports are acting as 1.1 rather than 2.0. Something funky about the WinXP driver? Any ideas?

- Leadtek WinFast 2000 XP TV card drivers would not install. I'm trying again tomorrow in a differenct PCI slot. Best guess is an interrupt conflict on the PCI bus. I have read about PCI bus conflicts on TV cards elsewhere.

- Fedora core 3 dual boot install overwrote my Master boot record. oops. WinXP recovery console had me up in 5 minutes after a brief web search. This is not a board problem but my user error. Apparently a known issue with Grub boot loader and XP. Many sites explain work arounds.

Overall I'm very happy with board, assuming I get the USB driver issue figured out. It is very fast compared to my Athlon XP 1800 box with 512Mb ram, even without the SATA disk ports in use.

Edit: A couple more things: The attachment shown in the pictures at newegg is an s-video/composite tv output adapter. I thought it was extra usb ports, as the description at newegg did not mention tv out. It works well, and shows a pretty clean (for low-res analog tv) picture at 800x600 (better but not very useful at 640x480) You can not use this tv out and the onboard vga out at the same time. The manual does say you can use the onboard vga in addition to the pci/pci-e video cards for multiple monitor output. They call it "video surround" or something like that in the manual.

Also not mentioned anywhere I noticed, the board has headers for a second com port and front panel mic input and audio port. It delivers more than promised.

Finally, the www.jetwaycomputer.com website finally has some good feature comparisons between the regular and pro versions, plus the ATX version of the board (with the HD audio codec). Three .pdf files and one .doc file.

yeah, most boards have the front audio and serial.

you need to have xp sp1 installed to use usb 2. mine seems to work fine.

i'm assuming you werent able to make the ram run at a lower speed either...

USB - I have XP, sp2, but still report USB as 1.1? Any other thoughts?

Ram - I did not try overclocking or changing the bus speed. This thing is so much faster than my Athlon 1800 it doesn't feel necessary.

If you tell me what settings to check, I'll try them on my setup if that will help.

Maybe you should try to uninstall windows drivers and reinstall the usb drivers? I had this problem with my Pci usb2.0 card when i reformatted too.

go to miscellaneous controls.

try to set the DRAM bus speed below 200mhz for ram speed. just set it at 166. i want to know if your ram divider works, or if it just boots at 200 mhz anyway at startup.

I set it in Bios to 166, but how do I tell what the boot up ram speed is? I go back to the bios and it still says 166, but boot screen goes so fast on this board and I'm not sure what I'm looking for, so I'm not sure what the ram speed actually is.

on the boot screen it will say something like,

"ram at 200mhz, ram is ddr400 128bit". something like that.

I couldn't catch it on boot up, but I went into the bios to change it back to 200 and it tells you the current ram bus speed - 200 Mhz. e.g.
Current RAM bus speed - 200 Mhz
Ram speed at nex boot - 166 Mhz

Obviously, since I had set it to 166mhz and it was reporting 200mhz, I have the same problem you do. However, in my case I'm not overclocking. Now if I can figure out my USB 1.1 vs. 2.0 issue...

yeah that usb issue is a strange one. apparently the ram issue is on all boards. oh well, still crossing my fingers that jetway will fix it.

Hi, does anyone with the A200GDMS(-Pro) know if this also allows undervolting to .825?

Then I would be very interested to get such a board, seems perfect to me for a silent, low-power PVR.

Anyone got Linux running on the A200/A210?

It seems to be hard to get in Germany or Europe generally, though.
Anyone knows a dealer in Germany, UK or the Euro zone?
I already mailed Jetway (.com.tw), but got no reply.

a200 and a210 are basically the smae board. except one is 754. i'd assume it'd have mostly the same options.

newegg i think is the only place that has the a200.

Hi hans007,

could you ('re brother), or someone else with the ECS RS480-M please find out which hardware monitoring chip is on this board?
Since it doesn't (seem to) support BIOS fan speed control, I'd like to find out if it can be controlled via OS, specifically linux (lm-sensors).

It seems impossible to get hold of the Jetway boards over here...

Cheers

from what i've read the uli 1573 is linux compatible, though i'd probably stick with the standard sb400 on the ecs or msi boards, since i think theres more support for it. the uli1573 does have hd audio, and ncq support but i dont really think performance wise its any faster.

my brother has an ecs rs480-m and i could take a look this weekend possibly if i remember, my brother isnt exactly computer savvy. not really sure what i'd be looking for however.

http://www.insanetek.com/index.php?page=ecsrs480m_1

they have a review with many high res pictures, perhaps you could check it out and be able to find it.

if you want fan speed control, the msi rs480 board does have it (i have had it, and will be getting one in probably soon again for a build, possibly my linux box if i can find a cpu).
