9/11 was a terrible attack of course, and I think most of us can remember exactly what we were doing when we heard about it.

However, I despise the fact that it seems our entire country has become 9/11-centric. I for one would like to move on. Terrorists attacked, it was horrid and a terrible thing to see. But, since terrorism cannot be defeated by force, I don't think obsessing over it is wise. Better to lick our wounds, mourn, then move on business as usual, _that_ is a far more effective way to fight terrorism.

The entire purpose of terrorism is to affect a political change through violence. If you don't make any political changes, the terrorists have already lost. They've stopped being terrorists, and have just become murderers.

People don't like to hear it, they say its "defeatist", but frankly if you think any military can "eliminate" terrorism, you are naive. You can defeat nasty dictators like Saddam, no problem, or the Taliban. But as someone once said "you can't fight ideas with bullets".

You people will care when they blow up Los Angeles with a nuclear device of some sort, not that it will matter much at that point as chaos will reign supreme all over the world after such an event. Considering all the polliticking that goes on with never any results our unsecure borders will be our undoing.

It's only been about 4 years since over 3000 people died in the worst terrorist attack on our country. Even now soldiers are dying in Iraq. I hope you're remembered after your death :(

i honestly wish i had those days off so i could begin to contemplate pretending to care about them.

9/11 is a promotional tool, according to our own government.

Yes, I am tired as hell about hearing what new thing our government has managed to cross-promote with 9/11.

My father worked in the WTC at the time, co workers died, things changed. A neighbor down the street who had been a good man for a solid investment banking firm left behind 4 children and a wife. Sad, but despite that the worst that the terrorist had done was to those that lived on. But most people don't take the time to look at the Bigger Picture.

For all of those who didn't want to be in P&N, well... No your in it! HAHA

I for one agree, there seems to be too much of a focus on 9/11. Yes, it was horrible but we don't need to hear about it every single second.

I wish people would simply get over it already.

for many people, this was a defining moment in their life.

loss of a husband, son, brother, etc.,

crippled, maimed or disabled.

utter terror and dispair..

this was a wake up call that Al Qaeda's plan to try an establish a "new world order" based on some sort of Caliphate, as unbelievable as that sounds, was being acted upon...

I am assuming you are young (<25 years old). The "War on Terror" will very likely be active throughout most of your adult life....you will hear about daily, and it will impact your life and probibly the life of your children when you have them.

the threat of communism was ever present throughtout my childhood. it had a huge impact on the daily news...it scared the crap out of me when i was a kid (Cuban Missle crisis)...for most of you here..it seems meaningless, and communism seems like a potential "solution" to the ills of the capitalistic world.

get use to hearing about 9/11, because it's going to effect you for the rest of your life.

My question is, does anyone really care anymore? I sure don't. I didn't know anyone who died there, and I shouldn't be forced to remember these people or the so-called "fallen heros" if I don't want to.

Yeah, consider this flamebait if you wish, but I care less about 9/11 nowadays. I wish people would simply get over it already. I swear, there isn't a single day I can watch the news without hearing some mention of 9-11.

Please be honest in your answer. You can vote one way, and flame me in the post if you want. At least vote honestly.

edited spelling mistake.
so we should forget the bombing at Pearl Harbor also?

if you don't want to commemorate it, don't. problem solved.
if you still hear about it in passing - big freakin deal.

the talk of 9/11 will continue to fade, but hopefully will never be forgotten. i, also, knew of no one that perished that day in the WTC, but they were still fellow Americans who perished at the hands of terrorists. for that i feel for them and their families.

I'm only tired of dumbass people (gop and country singers cough cough) milking a tragedy for their own gains. we shouldnt forget what happened on 911, but we also shouldnt be guilt tripped by politicians to let them do whatever they want.

It's only in the news as of late due to the 911 Commission Clinton scandal and because of the firefighter tapes.

I am tired of hearing it used to promote political agendas. It is a useful tool. When the Govt. wants something, "Remember 9/11 you terrorist supporter!", and most opposition will fall in line. It worked for the Iraq war, and if used right will work again.

Guess it takes a tool to recognize a tool. :D

Most thinking people do feel 9/11 was an attack on the USA and not part of some government plan involving G.W. Bush and oil. You and Michael Moore get to "Thelma and Louise" on that theory.

on the day it happened, i was more worried about stray american planes landing near me, I was surprised that the terrorists managed to pull it out but 3000 lives pales to the amount of children that die daily or what happened in rwanda

It's not just the amount of the lives, its also the impact it had on our country. 1 million people lost their jobs in the month following 9/11. It also spurred a war in Afghanistan that has claimed thousands more lives. (I don't consider Iraq and 9/11 related, so I don't corrolate Iraq with 9/11).

Edit: And yes, I'm a little tired of hearing about it. It was 4 years ago, I've gotten over it, now I just want Iraq fixed.

For most normal people, it should be gotten over and remembered as a sad event but not a life changing/stopping one so many years later. Life should have gone on and for those that dont allow it to, what they most radically affected now needs is therapy for PTSD so we dont have to do this, because tihs behavior to be so deeply in grievence so long afterwards to have to remember it daily and become such a duisruptive change is abnormal by medical definitions.
Translation: not getting over it is bad, mmkay.

You have something bad happen. For those who knew people involved or are/were in NYC, this really would be a traumatic thing, requiring the whole gamut of grieving. Even so, a year should be enough. Deal with it, learn from it, and move on. Life involves change. Accepting change allows for learning. Big businesses and politicians, however, fear change.

Like trying to solve non-existant problems at air ports, and the Patriot Act?

It will be a different they, though. You're talking about what China is likely going to do.

I tired of it being used as a political tool to enrich corps and go kill 10x+ more people who had nothing to do with it inside IRAQ. Tired of it being used to burn the constitution and fundemental rights eg: habeus corpus. Tired of nut jobs and mob metality who basically feel a good arab is a dead arab. Yea I'm tired of it.

But I did lose a great HS teacher of mine who is always in my heart, I mean great like teacher of the year type every year:( Hope they really do get the criminals behind these actions but I feel they go about it in the wrong way. Like a bull in china shop.

QFT.

Poor excuse is right. 9/11 was a wake-up call, and as far as OBL trying to change the quality of our lives, he's succeeded. Bush has pretty much done what every expert told him not to. Invade Iraq, as OBL predicted.

I'm sick of the Repugnacans using 9/11 to silence critics, curb scrutiny, and stifle free speech. For that reason alone, I'd be happier without the commemorations. But guess what? They're not really for me. I don't feel they're shoved down my throat, either. I can turn off the radio/TV and read. Each year the scale is reduced a little.

We only have to remember them ONCE a year at most, not every single day.

because more than once a year would be to much to ask of you, wouldnt it.

I am a Native New Yorker, so yes, it is too much to ask. :)
Yea I think those of us living in and around New York and D.C. are really tired of all the people using 9-11 to justify all of their actions.

I agree.

Haven't thought about 9-11 in a long time, and when I watch the news it's hardly mentioned anymore. While it's important to not forget, I don't think we should beat ourselves to death about it. As far as the patriotism that spread immediately afterwards, I think it was just one of those reactions where you naturally rally behind your nation after such an attack. I don't hold it against people. I do hold it against the president for using it as a means to go into Iraq with all the chatter about an Iraqi intelligence officer meeting with Mohammad Atta in Prague. That was never proven, even by Czech intelligence.
