Anyone think the F-250 is a bit overkill for a daily commute?

this is something i've seen a lot of lately. people driving F-250's as a daily commuter. is it me or is that a bit excessive. i know everyone has the right to spend their money anyway they please, but why would you buy an f-250 over an f-150 for a daily commuter?

An F-150 is also overkill for a daily commute, but it's underkill for a lot of the other things you'd want a truck for. Given a choice (and the means), guess which one I'd buy.

actually i don't think you'll see many suv bashers here, i'm willing to bet most of them don't even know what an f-250 is. :)

Hehe. I'd do it. When our lease expires next year, we were thinking about an Excursion with a Powerstroke Diesel. :Q

damn that excursion is HUGE. it looks a lot bigger than the suburban to me.

i want the Chevy Avalanche, my wife is still saying no, but after we buy our new house this fall probably, i think i'll splurge and get myself the avalanche. :)

If you can only afford one vehicle and you absolutely need a F-250 some other time besides commuting, NO, it's not excessive.

<< That depends... do you need a towing capacity of 14,500 lbs for the commute? :) >>

Maybe he's going to pickup his boat from the storage to go to the lake after work?

I do that every other day during the summer. :D

PlatinumGold - please specify which F250 you're talking about: the light duty version (F150 with load-leveling air bags in the rear) or the heavy duty F250.

If you're going to use it in some way for truck purposes like hauling stuff, then no, but otherwise, no. :D

hmmm, i'd say the heavy duty f-250.

the f-350 duallies sound's pretty good tho. i could see buying that. i just can't see going from an f-150 to an f-250 if you didn't have a practical reason for it. :)

My original post was a jab at the impending SUV bashing that I thought would happen :)

So far so good though.

As for an answer to your orignal question, yeh, personally I think they are overkill. I chuckle to myself every time I see some guy trying to park a quad cab extended bed F-250 or F-350 into a cramped parking lot. That's just way to much truck to move around in the city.

Of course, I say the same thing about a Suburban-XL or an Excursion as well, even though I am an SUV advocate. I just don't see how somebody could find something that big as a practical everyday usage car within city limits.

I think that the gas milage that you waste could just as easily be put twords a small payment on a 5 year or so old commuter car.

But that's just my opinion :)

I was just looking through the specs on the Ford site and found that tidbit funny. :) Personally, if you wanted a truck for commuting, the F150 seemed better suited than the F250.

That's Yukon XL - the Suburban doesn't need an extra large version :D

To me anyone with a full-size pickup or SUV for daily commute is a waste... (eg. Soccer Moms with their huge SUVs)
