i've been a fan of spider-man from the beginning, my only two gripes with the movie is of course the organics, and tobey playing the dumbfounded peter parker too well, he almost had no personality that entire movie. having him crack more jokes would have definitely brightened the role up a bit, but i'm not going to hold that against them.
the pacing was EXCELLENT, raimi pulled it off excellently. he pulled and flashed through scenes to get us through the origin quick enough that we weren't too bored. or like when parker comes home from ben's death and they don't bother conveying a whole drama scene, just enough to show you it meant something big time. i was surprised how quickly they got through high school and were in their college apartment already.
the final love scene in the graveyard was pretty bad though, i can't believe she confessed her love to him, and it WASN'T a dream. i swear i was waiting for the camera to flash out and show it was just in his head. they didn't quite make it clear enough why he left the scene (should have emphasized everyone he loves gets hurt).
anyone else catch the Lizard reference? he was fired by Dr. Connors for being late all the time. if you haven't heard the clip, there's a soundbite around where dunst accidently reveals the villians for Spidey #2.
the final web-slinging scene was BEAUTIFUL *_*

just wanted to add that this one would easily outdo Star Wars 2 opening weekend gross if George Lucas would ever have the balls to release it on a Friday (he gets an extra day for the weekend by puttin' it out on Thursday.)

Yeah, I cought that. I was actually gonna post it, but you beat me to it...
Tobey played a damn good spider-man. If you follow the comics, Peter Parker is a NERD. He is a brilliant scientist, but a bumbling fool. However, when he puts on the costume, he becomes another person. Peter evolves into a cocky and arrogant hero.
Willem Dafoe is a damn good actor. I kinda felt sorry for him when they made him put on that stupid mask. You could tell he was trying to act it out. I really felt all they needed to do was put some green paint on his face.
I wouldn't be suprised to see the Lizard in the next movie, or the new Goblin. If they do bring in venom, I am curious as to how they will do this.. Remember, the symbiot was part of Spider-Man before Venom...
Sorry to spoil the party of giving a big thumbs up. 
I am a big fan of Spiderman (comic book collector), I didn't even see any previews so I wasn't sure what to expect. I wanted Spidey to be a little more glib, to laugh in the face of danger, crack a few jokes etc. That is what made his comic books so fun. Also, the action scences weren't all that great, especially the web slinging you couldn't really tell. At least we know that Sam Raimi or someone high up has seen "The Matrix" from the action scenes. The Green Goblin's costume was horrible. It looked like a very bad kids' halloween costume. The set was also unimpressive, too generic. It would've been better if was brighter or more colorful. It would have been cool if it was brightly colored which would be the opposite of Batman 1 which was so dark and gloomy. Speaking of Batman, why oh why did Danny Elfman have to score this movie. All throughout the movie score I was thinking of Batman. After all these gripes and others not mentioned, it is okay if you are a Spiderman fan. My thumbs are sideways on Spiderman.
I think I need to read a few Spidey to catch up on all the character references.

How can some of you say the special effects were great? Throughout the whole movie they were NEVER great. In the beginning, at the very first CGI sequence (rooftop I think), I sat there thinking: "Oh god, this is Blade II all over again" (think P.O.S. unrealistic CGI). In short, the early CG SUCKED. Later it got better... but it was NEVER great in any part of the movie, it was only "ok" from about halfway-through to the end.
However, all in all, the movie was still a solid GOOD!

Actually it would be better if they had part CGI (the web swinging and stuff like that) and then a phat costume. I remember watching a movie called Split Second mainly because the alien looked like venom a little bit (at least that's the way I remember it). Now if the costume that the bad guy wore looked like that 10 years ago, Venom's costume could look amazing if it was manufactured today. I'm sure it would be tough to pull off his tounge and teeth in a realistic manner, but I'd much rather see more "real" equipment than CGI. I don't have anything against CGI but too much in a movie can almost make it look cheap.

I disagree, the organics make more sense. 3M and all of their industrial might can't synthesize spidersilk. How could a kid in his bedroom laboratory do it? They way they did it made it more believable. It's still far-fetched, not as much as it might have been.
As far as cracking jokes while in costume . . . it's about Spidey becoming comfortable with who is, coming to grips with himself. He's not going to be the same person he is after 30 years of comics. In the next film, watch, there will be a bunch of one-liners.

It's not like it was 10 years ago when the Ninja Turtles came out and the guys had to wear 40 pound costumes. With todays technology they could make an ultra-light latex suit (or some other fancy material) and he would have complete range of motion. The absolute hardest part to pull off would be the tongue and teeth, which would probably end up being CGI. You can't exactly staple a rubber tongue on the head and make it look realistic.

I'd rather have Venom in a suit with some CGI than to be ALL CGI.thought the movie was awesome...i'll probably watch it a 2nd time to look for any quirks that i missed...

the point of mechanical webshooters isn't for believability, we're talking about a Comic Book world. I don't exactly see OSCORP type industries producing a Green Goblin in the real world anytime soon either. the way they argue it is that peter has significantly more intimate knowledge of spider webbing and the traits of it intrinsically, far more than 3M can do by research alone. it also adds to the story with potential plotlines, several times in the comics his webshooters get jammed, or he runs out of fluid and has to retreat. or he uses the web capsules themselves to detonate on something, erupting in a huge sticky web-like mess. they aren't able to use a lot of those plot-outcomes if they're organic and "built-in".
as for Venom, I wouldn't mind seeing him but they will definitely have a lot of work to build it into the story, maybe in a third or fourth installment, but it's much too soon to be in a sequel. i'm wanting spidery's one-liners (we're talking about the director of Evil Dead here- the best One Liner movie in history next to Terminator) to show up
I would imagine they'd get the crew from Spawn or something similiar to work on Venom TRENDING THREADS
