Anyone own a pontiac vibe/toyota matrix?

I test drove a matrix before.

It sucked.

In order to reach the steering wheel, the seat had to be moved forward until my legs were jammed under the dash. It felt like it was built with no shocks. The steering was extremely stiff. The blind spots were pretty bad too.

I see sagalore...i'm gonna prolly go test drive it sometime this week. i'll let you know if the new vibe models are better in that dept

anyone else?

Civic doesn't offer the space that the matrix does.

I would say also take a look at the mazda 3 and the scion tc. Maybe the mazda 6 in hatch or wagon form.

friend had matrix XRS

decent acceleration with the 1.8L from the celica GTS, although it drinks premium. roomy interior, and with the power outlets and folding chairs, interior space is very versatile. decent gas milage, and not a single problem from his 3 years of use, hauling a bunch of stuff couple times a year back and forth from college. interior is a bit on the plasticky side. decent reliable car.

I have a Vibe... bout an 03 with 34k on it a year or so ago. Now I have 51k... no problems to speak of. If you drive it EASY (no hard stops/starts/etc), you'll get 31+ out of regular. Drive it hard & that drops a lot.

It's not a sports car... got it due to the hauling flexibility given the size, the economy, and the reliability (Toyota).

Happy so far 🙂

I have an 03 Matrix XR (first year they came out).... I love it for the versatitlity & roominess for a smaller car. I have the 4wd (AWD) model because I bought it when I was living in CO, does great in the snow / slick roads. I would buy one again!

I test drove the matrix but wasn't impressed with the performance and options vs. price. The mazda protege5 (now mada3) was my first choice for both style and performance but I went with a used focus ZX5 instead due to price. Couldn't be happier with the focus and out of all the 4 door hatchbacks the focus has the largest availability of aftermarket parts (both engine and body) since the car is sold worldwide.

I test drove a Vibe. I like the idea of the car (lots of room, hatchback, etc), but the thing just felt gutless. It didn't help that I just test drove a Mazda 3 before the Vibe. I'll probably be buying a Mazda3 Hatch this fall.

My dad has a GM credit card and has built a nice amount that can be used for a discount...thats why I cant consider any other brand besides GM

thats a goofy looking car...will check it out tho. I read somewhere that its very cheap to own(whatever that means)

I bought my dad a 2005 Vibe last year. Very good. (I used GM reward and employee discount and get about $7000 in saving last year)

Very good car as it is a Toyota joint-venture.

nice...are you aware of any other gm incentives around?

I picked up a vibe about a month ago. I like it so far, but agree with most of the comments. It's comparatively gutless (the manual does help though), the rear vision in general is lacking, and I haven't got advertised mpg yet (I drive it pretty fast though). It has the japanese way of creating power though (your have to rev the snot out of it). I like torque available low, and it's not what you get in this car. I'm still having a blast driving it though.

Since you are looking exclusively GM vehicels:

Saturn Vue 4cyl
Malibu Maxx

Both can be had for around the prive of a Vibe, maybe $2-3K more.

I actually just got rid of my '03 Vibe. Overall, it was a decent car. I really miss having the cargo room (even more than I thought I would).

I drove it pretty hard, and ended up throwing a rod at about 75k.

Mazda3...

did you even read the fvcking thread...dumbass

Okay, let me make it more clear to you. In my opinion, the Mazda3 hatchback is a superior car to the Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix, as a direct competitor.

and his opinion is that, due to his dad's discount with GM, he is only looking at GM vehicles.
