Anyone looking forward to play H.A.W.X?

I'm a big fan of flight simulators but obviously HAWX is a arcade flying game...more like a mid-air fps, but am still going to buy it. If you order now you'll be able to unlock F22 raptor with your pre-order code.

From the gameplay footage I've seen it looks nice and the flying looks like it would be fun, but I'm just wondering how 'deep' the experience is. Is it just linear missions, or do you get some sandbox type play or any RPG type elements (new equipment, 'stats', hiring team mates, etc)?

so is it going to be like the Ace Combat series of games that were on the Playstation or does it have more of a flight sim feel to it?

It's definitely not a sim...........it's a mid-air FPS game.

This looks like just about the level of realism I'm interested in a flying game.
Back when I actually was interested in flying games, it was the Dynamix Aces series that I played. Nowadays, the planes in BF2 are about all I can handle. I could give a crap about simulating a real flying experience. I don't anticipate applying for my pilots license any time soon. I may buy this if I can get a good price.

If it's anything like the pre-order codes for Far Cry 2 (also from Ubisoft), they will be available via Google soon after the game is released. I wouldn't go too far out of your way to get them, if the game is available cheaper without it.

STEAM and D2D are running a special where you get one of Ubi's WWII arcade flight sim games for free if you preorder HAWX. It's Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII or something like that.

So is this game about more arcane style flight simulating?

I used to love flight simulators, but the last ones I played were IL-2 Sturmovik and IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles. I loved those 2, but I mostly played the single player campaigns. I'd love to try out something new, it's been such a long time since I've found any interesting flight simulators. I Might have to check on this, but I've never found modern jets as interesting as WWII era planes.

I was until I played the demo on 360

Really, don't expect it to be like any other sims on a PC unless they change it to be different than the console

Assistance off mode (where the planes are not limited in speed/manuevering) the camera is pretty bad, and its locked 3rd person sort of tripod camera, and there is no insturments only what you see your plane doing to tell you what's going on.

In hud/cockpit/3rd person chase plane type view you have to be in assistance ON which limits your airspeed accel/deceleration and your rate of turn/roll compared to assistance OFF

I'm getting it for 360 first, as I really think a gamepad caters to the assistance off mode more than joysticks, since its more like geometry wars than a flight sim in that mode, but I'll definitely try out the PC version's demo if they release one, and go from there if I want to pick it up.

Yep.

Its not the only factor driving my decision, but it is a definite minus for the PC. (that joystick gives no advantage)

Game pads are horrible for flight games, I use Logitech Cordless 2.4 Freedom joystick - it's the best for simulators, for combat sims I recommend Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox 2 or Saitek X52.

Try out hawx and say that, the game isn't a traditional simulator by any stretch.

I've got a X45 I use and have used in other "sims", I definitely wont be using it in HAWX even if I get it on PC, I will use the 360 gamepad.

I wanted to until I watched those trailers. I thought it would have more of a "sim" aspect to it like his other titles, this is WAY too arcade-like for me. :(

Here's some links-
FilePlanet

FileFront

I played around with it for a bit using my XBox 360 controller. Seems pretty cool.

downloaded and started the demo.

flying with the mouse and keyboard sucks atm...the default key settings are retarded. i made it to the part where you have to do the quick flip turn things and i can't do it. i can't fly in the unassisted mode...the point of view of the camera and your plane is just fucking retarded and it forces you to fly like that. i can't do the goddamn flip turns they want you to do. so i quit playing it.

when i quit, it sat at this screen where it has a button to click to download. it wasn't moving from that screen so i clicked the download button. it closed and opened 50 IE7 windows and kept opening more and more and more. had to reboot my PC by pressing the power button to get it to stop.

fuck you HAWX and fuck you Ubi!

the Assistance Off camera seems improved on the PC version (over 360 at least, its still not perfect ho), it definitely looks better and it has a WAAAAAAAAAAY better sense of depth (looks like it has better shadows)
