Generally decent people, if you know where to look. There are several Oregonians here on these boards, myself included. Some of the very best here at AT like Brutuskend, RossMAN, and Viper GTS are Oregonians. Classifieds can be found at OregonLive.com (used to be the site for the Oregonian newspaper). There are swap meets all over the place, and often. However, unless you're looking for cars, guns, or knives, you're going to have to search a little harder for them.

Buying an AK won't help. We've got all kinds of people here in Portland. Portland is one of the most diverse cities in the nation. You'll find extreme pro and anti gun nuts, along with both ends of the spectrum for just about every other political hot topic around.

Oh, and we have the largest microbrew collection this side of the Atlantic. 😀

Add BigSmooth and Eli to that list of great AT'ers living in Oregon.

I second going to OregonLive.com to search the classifieds.

I'm moving back in 4 weeks. W00t for graduation.

I live in California right now, but this fall I'll be attending the U of O in Eugene, looking forward to some Oregon!

perhaps i worded it wrong, in phoenix, you need a gun on your side to feel safe, so unless you've lived near broadway/35th ave where i'm at, don't give your negative comments towards me.

uh....so theres a ton of....hispanics in oregon too!!!?!?!? AHHHHHHHH! thats the reason i'm moving from phoenix! it drives me insane! time to buy a gun... oh and i'm moving near albany, or i guess....unless i decide to stop earlier, pretty much moving wherever i stop, maybe i'll goto canada instead.

Ummmm...... yeah, Oregon sucks. Please please please keep going until you get to canada.

If you're moving to Albany, keep the bullets for yourself. You'll put one in the side of your head in no time.

I find it ironic that you are worried about redneck hicks, then you go on to complain about there being hispanics?

Yes, Albany has plenty of redneck hicks and yes, I'm sure you will feel right at home.

sweet ashanti, i'm so glad you can shoot names at me....takes a lot of balls on the internet heh. come live in southern phoenix and say something to me, you'll understand my thoughts 100%, my truck has been broken into 7 times, i've been robbed 2 times, and when i used to do pizza delivery, drivers were robbed 13 times in 7 months, of which all were hispanic except one. now perhaps (and i hope) oregon is different, i draw no conclusions, all though you do seem pretty defensive. i usually let someone explain thier thoughts/comments, but since i'm just a `red neck hick` i guess you see no reason to do so. whatever works for ya!

Maybe you ought to read Shanti's post again... Nowhere did (s)he call you a name.

But I do agree with his earlier post which suggested you keep driving north.

Btw, I've lived in Phx, and I can attest that South Phoenix is not an outstanding neighborhood... However, to label millions of people based on 21 crappy experiences, is very wrong.

I think almost every Oregonian you meet will bid you to visit here but live somewhere else. That's just... kinda, the culture I guess. My neighbor has a bumper sticker that says "Welcome to Oregon. Now go home." 😀 😛

Regardless, Wingznut, if he's not happy there based on his experiences that he's described, he's not going to be happy in most suburbs here, either.

Well... especially Albany. A blue-collar industrial mill-town of 35,000 about 70 miles south of Portland (straight down I-5), it's not exactly the shining jewel of Oregon. Corvallis, 15 miles to the SW and the home of OSU, is nice though.

And in the words of the late great Governor Tom McCall, speaking on national TV in about 1970, "Oregon is a beautiful place and we welcome you to come and visit, but for God's sake, please don't stay." 🙂

Sorry, "most suburbs" in Oregon do not have anywhere near the crime rate that Al describes is in South Phoenix.

If you mean that he's going to be unhappy simply because he is living amongst hispanics, then yeah... He needs to keep traveling north, eh?

What names?
I just figured with your racist attitudes you'd be right at home with the rednecks you complained about.

How do you think you are going to come across to us when you make a statement about how terrible it would be if Oregon has a lot of hispanics? I understand your experience was bad. But that's because they were probably illegals who were broke and desperate for money. You can not generalize that all hispanics are like that.
